[#3711231]

Rear derailleur looks a tad twisted on my road bike, time for replacing - it's a 105 5600.

Am I correct in thinking my 105 5600 STI's will only be compatible as far as the 6600 Ultegra?

No (they don't like the latest series calipers much though).

So I can for a 6700 rear derailleur, but I'd be limited if I ever chose to replace calipers?

You can pretty much whack any Shimano road rear mech on there.

SS will run ok on a compact with 12-27 on the back?

Would seem to suggest so, 50-34 on the front by the way.

All road mechs were rated for 27T and suddenly became OK overnight for 28T sprockets. Unofficially they usually work up to 30T.

SS cage was good for 29 but seems to be re-rated at 33 teeth range now and 50-34 front is OK.

GS cage is good for a larger teeth range (triple) and 50-34 is OK.

You propose 31T range which is now inside the current 6700-SS spec.
