Hello
Doing the afan enduro next week and need some advice to ensure I make it. I have been doing some long rides recently - around five hours , but have only used fruit pastles and cereal bars! 100k is a new bench mark for me so I would welcome any advice of what to eat and drink on ,1) this week and especially the day before 2) on the day. I would prefer to keep just water in my camel back and gain the energy from nice food like malt loaf and jam sangers if ok? ๐
cheers
At this late stage, I wouldn't bother with anything the day before or on the day that you're not used to
Stick with the bars & fruit pastilles but remember to keep eating every 1/2 hr or so
As above, I wouldn't change anything, stay with what you know works. Eat and drink regulary while riding.
Good luck.
im doin this ride too, there are 4 feed stations on the route so you will be ok
i personally would take more than just water as i am imagining its a 8 hour ride
I'm doing this too and fuelling could be my stumbling block. On local rides (up to 3 hours) I don't tend to eat anything and drink about half a litre. On the Brecon beast last weekend I ate four energy gels and about a litre of water in the 3 hours 43 I went round. Felt OK at the end, but may have had something to do with having two gels before the final road section (knew it was coming).
But 100 km is also a new benchmark so I'm going to have to do something new, drinking regularly and eating something every 30 minutes or so seems the way to go. Just need to remember to actually do it :-).
remembering to eat is essential in my opinion as once you do get hungry its usually too late and a couple of bars are not really gonna help, think powerbar are sponsoring too so grab a few of their bars
