Kelvin that's Darwen tower with a big ol' sheath on it, it's being renovated.
I had planned on extending the commute home (usually 10mins) but decided to go for a walk after tea. Lovely evening for it
I'm in for this, did it last year so hoping for a repeat. 1h40m road ride today.
1 hour on the mountain bike after work tonight.
Chub Club weigh in tomorrow morning may be a let down though.
Walk today, as did dragons back 6 day ultra running race last week so trying to take it easy plus packing the house for the house move tomorrow means time was short.
Will aim to knock off some of those 30 day challenge apps before Christmas.
Rest(ish) day today as I had a couple of big days Tuesday and Wednesday. Took a friend's dog out twice and was up and down a ladder all morning and did a shed load of wood chopping so I'm counting it.
Walkies!
Day 1. Did a similar ride to yesterday. But a bit more casually. Was around 1h 20mins. Feeling good so far, I'm hoping the weather holds for the next couple of months, that'll make things more enjoyable!
I'm subscribing to the thread as my reminder. Day 1 and 2 done with some gentle walking and zwifting. Ard Moors over the weekend will step it up a bit for day 3 and 4!
Does dancing to drum and bass in a club count?
Day 2 done, the gym I went to closed during lockdown, so until I decide to join a new one, it’s minimal home gym stuff for me. Kettlebells today, short rest breaks and supersets, so definitely cardio as well as resistance. I needed to improvise a wrist brace at 22 minutes, so watch out for that.
Might be TRX tomorrow.
Does dancing to drum and bass in a club count?
Kinda hope so. The second day of th challenge is always my wife's birthday and this year we're not on holiday so we can't go supping or kayaking but we are off to a dance music festival. 8 hours raving my nuts off has to count for something, right?
(I'm going to cycle the very long way there)
We could all have a virtual dance off tonight
@midlifecrashes you've inspired me, we're off to Galloway coast for the long weekend, 12kg kettlebell packed in van too!.
I’ve done two 4 mile walks so far as I’m still recovering from elbow surgery, there should be a setting on strava for looking after a 2 year old, it’s bloody exhausting!
I was looking out for this but it appeared on the bike forum rather than chat like before!
I'm in - 50" 'tempo' (har de har har) run yesterday. A mix of dog walk, gardening and yoga for today then a long run (shuffle) tomorrow...
I’ll join the IG hashtag
Cool, thanks. I love to see everyone's photos!
We could all have a virtual dance off tonight
Tell me more...
40 mile road ride this morning. Fitting stuff in this weekend is looking problematic.....
I did a steady 45 mins on the turbo last night but today I did…
…100 miles on the road.
(For me, this year, that’s a lot)
Tomorrow’s effort might be a little shorter.
Joined up now as well. looking forward to ending the year on a positive note.
48km road ride today. 1h42m. Garmin tells me I need 72hrs recovery time 😂
2 hour MTB ride yesterday...lots of commuting today...
planning a run tomorrow am, then 90min zone 2 zwift session sunday eve...
Will try to add in body weight workouts too!
Good luck one and all!
DrP
SUP again, in 13kt headwind. Was not fun, fell in a few times while turning. Did maybe 25 mins or so, but I'm adding 5 minutes worth of squeezing in and out of a borrowed wetsuit.
Walk last night/this morning and some weights this evening. Daughter has gymnastics for an hour and a half and I have access to a gym round the corner so this looks like it'll be my Friday staple if I'm off.
Extended the commute home. Normally under 2miles and 10mins. Day 2 ✅
Mixed my lunchtime opportunity for a circuit class so just went for a walk to notch up 10k steps (which I'm classing as minimum for any walking days).
Had planned to get the train to work - instead did a 12.5 mile ride to work, about 80% off road. I’m absolutely shattered this evening - hope I can keep this up, whilst balancing work with ongoing long COVID recovery. It has been a pretty epic work week though.
Finished work early and had a wander up and over whernside today. Looking forward to sticking to this.
Yesterday was half-hearted performance of walking, triceps dips and body weight squats.
Today was better - weights and skipping.
Weekend plan is bike & gym; also thinking about dusting off running shoes.
Got a squash racquet somewhere...
45 minute mix of bodyweight and weights this evening. Went for 1 minute rest between sets, 5 sets, 2 minute rest between exercises, no pairing. Struggled with bodyweight exercises more than expected due to the shorter rest time, so switched to easier variations for last sets. Had higher reps with the weights - an 18kg lump of metal. Finished by standing on one leg with eyes closed for one minute each leg. Will do a quick bit of stretching/flexibility/yoga/whatever, then a glass of wine.
I think a glass (or two) of wine is a recovery drink; none of this protein shake nonsense - protein comes from food; drink is for hydration or enjoyment.
Ninety minute ride along the Tees with a bit of dirt jump thrown in at the end.I was going to do a much longer ride but I,m really struggling at the moment. In fact I discussed with a mate giving this a pass this year.My housing provider and others have decided to put eight building sites around our row(one right next to my house).Frankly,it's been a bit of a nightmare and very depressing. It's been damaging to my physical and mental health.Iain thinks, I should give this a chance as it's a bit of a positive distraction. What a year.
.Iain thinks, I should give this a chance as it’s a bit of a positive distraction. What a year.
This is definitely a great way to improve your mental health. I struggle every year around this time as summer fades away and the season adjustment kicks in. Having completed this challenge for the last 2 years I can say that exercise every day can really help. I’m definitely a better person as a result.
Yesterday an hour walk with the dog, which was not usual as we were dog sitting a mental cocker spaniel. Today a 5 and a bit km run.
I should give this a chance as it’s a bit of a positive distraction.
This thread last year was a highlight for motivation for me. I'd never thought I could stay interested enough through the fall and winter to keep working out. Historically, I haven't. As you know this is a supportive thread. Whatever you decide, and how much you decide to do, you'll always get some positive support here.
Day 2. This year has been tough (obvs) so we decided to stay with family for a bit. Mini 10 hasn't really seen his grandparents for around 18 months, so it was much needed for him. Mrs. 10 has been happy to spend time with her mom. They have a short couple of off road loops nearby. Bit of climbing up a mesa, steepish rocky descent, some slickrock and a whole bunch of dusty turns. I've been riding that each day. Today was around 80mins. Felt cooler, I felt better. I may have spoken too soon about the weather though because snow is forecast next week. May stay dry down here, but who knows!
No moles at the counter, but here's some prairie dogging.
Went for a morning mooch to the moors, around 90 mins all in, yesterday followed by some lighter bodyweight core and back exercises.
My half hour of drumming a day was a bit of hand sticking work on practice lad for day 1 then my 2nd ever gig last night day 2.
Fortunately we're in Cornwall ATM, and there's swell and the wind is behaving itself, so I'm getting some surfing in.
5k run yesterday with the youngest on his bike
Taking him swimming this afternoon so of nowt else I'll have done that but will hopefully get some circuits in. MTB spin tomorrow morning if it's dryish, winter bike if wet
Day 2 and 3 complete, 77 mile charity road ride yesterday with some work colleagues and a 14km mtb ride this morning while my daughter was in ballet class. Off for birthday beers with a mate tonight, planning to drive in to town and leave my car outside my mums house and then cycle over to collect it in the morning to cover tomorrow’s entry.
Lots of running around today covering two local carnivals but managed a 3 mile walk in the sunshine in a brief lull in the chaos!
Done my 9 mile long run this morning with the last 3 miles at parkrun. 5-10 years ago 9 miles would have been nothing, but these days I'm just pleased to be able to keep going!
It's made a huge difference, retiring last year, because I could get as much daylight as I could eat. Before that I had a Lumie daylight lamp and would eat my breakfast sat a foot away from one each morning, which I recommend if you have to be indoors during the day.
Just a walk today, feeling a bit stiff after yesterdays gym visit.
Yokaiser, you could try a few stretches as long as your not to cold.
Had a long and busy day at work yesterday so did an extra half hour dog walk with the kids that I wouldn't normally have done. The blackberries we found were delicious.
Their mum's off to do the Etape Caledonia so we did an hour's ride today and I think we'll maybe do Laggan tomorrow 😊
Another Loch Pityoulish session. We were going to do Morlich but there was some event on. Water is still 13-14c so very pleasant and warm enough to have a picnic after.
