I ordered a new bike at the end of march from a well known bike store. Was advised 2 weeks after ordering
That they couldn't get the one I orders so got an upgrade To the next model up which is fantastic. Was advised that it would be in at end of April, then first week in May and the latest delivery date was last week. Spoken to them a couple of times and been told 'it's on it's way' but not had any contact with them this week.
If I wasn't getting such a great deal I'd be asking for my 15% deposit back, that they've had for over two months, and cancel the order
Is this a reasonable time to wait? Should I ask for some extras thrown in if the bike ever arrives.
who's taking the hit on the upgrade, the importer/manufacturer or the LBS?
Pretty poor show when they said it would be 2 weeks
However upgrading you to the next model up is fairly decent, i suspect there are alot of bike shops who would just have blamed it on manufacturer delays and not bothered upgrading.
The manufacturer have met the cost of the upgrade as the 2012 bike I ordered sold out everywhere. I was advised first week in may that 'the bike is on its way from focus', is someone riding it from Germany then.
To be fair to the shop involved, it's very possible that they are being let down by the importer/manufacturer and in this case there's little they can do about it. If you are getting a free upgrade, I'd be tempted to just hang on and wait, but you need to accept that there might still be no guarantee of delivery.
Depends what the bike is. It's not uncommon for super high end or niche kit which is only made in low numbers to be held up - possibly one supplier failing to send the manufacturer some components, possibly a miscalculation on the part of the importer, possibly held up due to something as simple as a strike or shipping delay.
It's unlikely to be the shop; they're probably waiting on the importer who may be waiting on the manufacturer who may be waiting on a supplier...
If you do cancel what would you do then?
If you have another bike or supplier of the same bike in mind they might have similar supply issues or delivery dates.
I'd be contacting them again and get clarification on the reason behind the latest delay and seek something else free chucked in as the upgrade to the higher spec was for the original non supply problem!
Don't ask don't get!
Not niche at all.
I'm sure the shop are doing their best and it's not their fault but it's still a long time to wait particularly when I've been told at least 3 estimated delivery dates.
Should I ask for some extras thrown in if so what sort of value shoulid I be looking at for freebies? Orinal bike cost £2100 and upgraded to £2700 model by the manufacturer not the shop.
Does it come with pedals? Anything you would upgrade in the near future, bars seatpost etc?
They can provide it at cost to them and customer service makes a difference.
I had a problem with CRC when I ordered a carbon hardtail frame and they sent me the wrong size and got messed about with what stock they had. Ended up dealing with a manager and he gave me a Ritchey Carbon Superlogic seatpost for £70 RRP was £230.
Mmm only things I'm looking to upgrade are the bar/stem/seatpost to enve kit but I don't think the shop stock it. Doesn't come with pedals but want speedplay zero but again not sure they stock them
Might try for some shorts or helmet maybe.
Given that it's a Focus (I'm assuming its a roadbike for the purposes of this comment) I can see why you may have a problem. The Izalco won bike of the year in both Cycling Plus and Cycling Weekly and other Focus models recently came best of test for both sportive bikes and Cross bikes in Cycling Plus. No idea if they're as good as that would seem to indicate (they do seem to spend a lot of money advertising in the cycling press) but this would indicate to me that there is a veritable herd of cycleestas with large wads of cash fighting each other for a Focus bike. If I was you I'd hold out for one with a dura-ace di2 groupset and kryptonite wheels...
I don't get you're point. I know why the store couldn't get the bike I originally ordered, that wasn't the question I asked.
I ordered a custom bike from a well recommended shop and told them it had to be here by my 50th birthday. This gave them about six months to get everything sorted. The frame was ready a couple of weeks before my birthday but the shop took a further 12 weeks to build and deliver the bike. I was not happy.
OP it's not the shop's fault. Suppliers ***** shops and customers like this all the time.
They do it deliberately....they have no vested interest in taking your money at all.Ideally they would never have to sell anything 🙄
They probably saw you coming and decided to treat you like an ass 🙂
Probably not as I ordered on line.
Grow up.
