Thinking of doing this solo on Saturday, entries shut tomorrow or Wednesday I think so making final decision.

Going to drive up Sat morning to arrive at 8, what is pit situation like? Will I be parked miles away from course or is there ample parking along the race Course making stopping at vehicle easy?

What's the course like in terms of how technical? Done Glentress 7's a few times if anyone has done both for comparison.

Thanks

Solo pits were right near the start line when I've done it. Parking is about a minute away even at furthest end of car park.

Technically it's very similar to gt 7.. Nothing remotely tricky, although being knackered after ten hours may change that I suppose

I remember doing the route (not the event) maybe ten years ago. All very straightforward apart from one short section of maybe 100m that was in a different league - much more like a full-on DH course with big orange pads on the trees. I suspect we weren't on the route. It's the only time I've been to Leanachan so I've no idea what or where it was except that there was a diversion/alternative on low level boards.

whitestone, you're probably thinking about Nessie. That was part of the race route for the first year or two - well generally the earth slope next to it ended up being what most racers took on foot - but was skipped in the following years that I attended.

No Fuss typically mix in some parts of the Witch's Trail and some hand cut sections rather than sticking to the waymarked 10 Under the Ben trail. Or at least they did up to a few years ago when I stopped going.

@ChrisL - could be, the name rings a bell. On a scale of 1 - 10 where most of the rest of the course was 2, this was 10! Maybe an exaggeration but it was so out of character with the rest of the loop.

The one year I did it, the only technicality came from bits where the "new trail" was just some orange flags stuck in the forest floor which hadn't even been scratched out, add rain and XC bikes and you have instant Entertainment. Nice riding on the whole but easier than the GT7.

You'll be close to course. Solos had their own pit diversion last year. Never done the GT7 so can't compare but 10UTB nearly always has a newly cut muddy rooty bit that will have a lot of people walking, especially if the week is to be wet beforehand (it is). There can be some short rocky tech too but it's generally all quite flowy.

Thanks for info. Have signed up now and had a look through the race pack: 1400ft of elevation a lap! Ooooft! And I thought GT7 had a lot of climbing!

That's not too bad when you consider it's over 10 miles

Well after all that and the final prep etc on Thurs and Fri I drove up Saturday morning and hit a deer on the Laggan to Spean Bridge road meaning I couldn't make the race. Gutted to miss it but there's always next year. Looked like a good one as well (apart from the last couple of hours from what I hear).

That's a shame, it was ace. Until the last 2 and a bit hours when the temperature plummeted and it sleeted and rained.

Not the best place to be in a set of bib shorts, SS jersey & base layer I can tell you.
