Can I use a 10 speed shadow + mech with my 9 speed set up? sorry for the dumb ass question but I'm looking at a new Mech and I can't see a 9 speed specific one with the clutch.
Cheers Rob ๐
No and there aren't any 9 speed (Shimano) ones with a clutch.
bummer ๐ that's that idea out of the window then.
Thanks though
Apparently you can use a sram 9spd shifter and it'll work. Also someone has reported to have put a clutch from an xtr mech on a 9spd shadow mech.
Hmm, I'm puzzled ?!?!
I know that a standard (non clutch) 10 spd shadow mech works on a 9 spd set-up, because I've used this before.
So why won't the shadow + version work ??
Come on all you techies, explain please.
9spd and 10spd have different pull ratios. You could get 9spd shadow mechs.
You can use a 10spd Shimano mech with a 9spd sram shifter, I did for ages with no issues, 10spd slx clutch and 9sp x9 shifter. The cable pull is slightly different I think but close enough you can get away with it. Better still put a few spacers under the cable bolt on the mech to make the lever arm a bit longer. I used a few spare threaded washers from old inner tubes and it worked a treat.
Ah, right !
That's the new bit of knowledge I've learned today then.
Thanks guys.
