read loads about running the 10 speed shimano+ clutch deraileurs with SRAM 9spd shifters, using a 5mm homemade spacer on the cable clamp....
but, am I missing something??
Why wont a SRAM 10 spd type 2 deraileur work with the SRAM 9spd shifter? they both have a 1:1 actuation.
Surely the indexing is only in the shifter!?
No one knows?
They aren't compatible. You actually need the cable pulls to be different- for compatability 9 shifts of a 9-speed shifter needs to pull the exact same amount of cable as 10 shifts of a 10-speed shifter, so each pull has to be relatively bigger.
Thanks for your answer Northwind, I often see you comment and can tell you know your stuff so I'll take your word for it.
But I still can't see why it won't work. If there isn't an index on the mech and the distance from high to low is the same, i can't get my head round what would be the problem.
im talking about using 9spd shifter, 9 spd cassette, 10 spd mech
