Currently running a sram x9 2 x 10 set up on my whyte 901, I was loosing the chain a lot on rough descents so added a medium cage x9 type 2 rear derailleur. This has helped but not eliminated the problem, I have the chain as short as I can and have adjusted the front mech. The chain seems to stay on better when on the small chain ring. Could this just be a case of the large chain ring being worn?

Considering either a new cassette/chain and deore crank set. The other option would be to buy a narrow wide chain ring but would I be able to fit this to my current sram double crankset? Sorry for long rambling post.

You can't use a narrow wide on a 2x setup. My advice is go 1x10, with 42 expander if you need it

I fitted a Gamut three years ago and have not dropped a chain since, which, judging by reports, is more than can be said for thick thin rings and dodgy clutch mechs.

As above get a Stinger, Gamut are a bit overpriced imo.

Thanks for replies, how much extra drag if any would a stinger add to the drive chain, just don't want to feel like the bike is dragging on singletrack/climbs as most of my riding is xc/trail based?
