Hi all... I run Sram X01 and think a chain guide may be helpful to me, has anyone got any tips or running anything similar please.?
Thanks.
What's your reasoning behind this?
I run 1x10 with a clutch mech and usual narrow-wide chainring, this is on a HT, and last week in the Alps even with the clutch off I didn't get any chain drop.
About half the party (14 in all) were running 1x setups (both Shimano and Sram) and I think there was one dropped chain all week and that was on a bike with a chain guide. So dropped chains do happen but they don't IME seem to be common.
I run an E13 XCX fine.
I experienced a lot of dropped chains on my 1x10 nw with clutch so wanted the extra safety, probably don't need it as I think it was more to do with chainline on the 1x10.

How much I need the top guide, I'm not sure, but the taco has taken a fair battering so has been a worthwhile addition, and given how little extra cost, weight and complexity the top guide adds to the whole setup, I don't see any reason not to add it for extra insurance.
Ive been dropping the chain a lot lately, it's a 2 yr old setup... just ordered a new cassette, chain and front ring so wanted to possibly fit a guide at the same time.
Yesterday at BPW I dropped it so hard that i bent the chain and had to drop a few links.! Drove me totally mental as it kept happening.
If you're still on the original chain/cassette/ring after 2 years, then I'd suggest you're dropping the chain as it's all massively worn!
The harder you ride, the more likely you are to ship a chain off a narrow/wide.
Long travel full suss also presents more of a challenge than a hardtail as the chain will be coming in at different angles and the tension will be changing as you go over bumps.
See the Enduro world series for details, all the top guys and girls run upper guides and at Tweedlove on Sunday there were quite a few privateers trying to buy the display guides off the Gamut stand after shipping their chains during their race runs on Saturday.
