I've just secured a Cannondale BadBoy to replace my '94 steel Hardrock commuter. A small section of my commute is a muddy/gravely footpath up/down a hill and I'll need more than a slick. What options are there? Something like a 32mm cyclocross knobbly on a 26" would be great.

depends how knobbly you want?

contis come down as low as 1", the muds are awesome in the mud, but im not sure ide want them on any tarmac, i reckon they would last about 5 mins.

how about something a little fatter, from the touring range, slick in the middle, with knobbles at the edge for cornering and mud etc?

Contis are great for me as I can get a discount and pick them up from the UK distributors after work. I'm running Double Fighter IIs on the commuter at the moment but I want something narrower and faster rolling. Also I don't think you can get anything over an inch into the BadBoy frame.

To be honest, this is the path I travel on. It gets a bit muddy when wet but it's never a nightmare.

I've regularly ridden worse than that on a 32c touring tyre 😀

Try out what you have before splashing the cash.

Haven't got anything yet though. That's the problem. Aside from my Double Fighter IIs which will not fit the frame.
