So my Rockshox forks arrived the other day. They have a 1 1/8 straight steerer, except that it's not totally straight. It has a very slight, but just visible taper. At the bottom it is 30.0mm diameter, and it quickly tapers to 28.5mm (1 1/8").
Is this normal? I haven't tried fitting it to a headset yet.

Yes, the very bottom of the headtube is slightly flared to receive the headset crown race.

Assuming your headset needs a crown race (it does!)
