Anyone bought one of these ? Look ok spec for £850 and I'm interested by the G2 geometry,
Any views on these ?
cheers
seen a few very favourable reviews in mags in recent months. if its that delicious root beer / red / orangey one with silver bits then go for it! simply cos its the best looking bike ive seen in ages 😀
I think it was in a What MTB magazine hardtail shoot-out and won. iirc, the only caveat they put on it was it's incompatibility with longer travel forks.
I've had an 06 fisher bike for a while and liked the longer top-tube. Not as long as On-one's. I think the Hoo Koo has the higher end tubing as well.
I'm a fan! I've had a Fisher HT before and love the way they ride. If I could buy a Big Sur frameset I would and transfer all the parts from my full suss. I've heard nothing but good things about the new Fisher range and I'm trying to get my boss to stock it instead of Giant or Trek at the mid range HT price point
I've got a Big Sur (with the carbon fibre rear end) that lives in semi-retirement at my in-laws place on Mull - A fantastic bike and one that I would ride more if I had the space to keep it at home. I would definitely consider a fisher h/t again - if the G2 geometry is an improvement on the original Genesis, then I would be impressed as it was ideal for me.
no one on STW got one of these then ?!
I HAVE!!!!
Look, just get it now
Originally I was looking at a Wahoo (yeah, low I know) but then decided that a Tassajara would be better. Went to see the Tassa at LBS and loved it. Got home to order from same shop online (cheaper price) and decided to get a Hook. It was a gamble as I hadn't even looked at it properly as I didn't want to fall in love 😛
The kit on it is absolutely brilliant for the price, but the frame alone is worth it for the £800. The shorter top tube makes the bike fit like a glove (even for a lanky 6ft+ 17 year old), and handle really quickly. On the first few rides on FTD, the bike could turn quicker than the Bonty tyres could handle, resulting in a few slow speed near misses. The Recon forks (with the offset crown) just look right on the frame, with an angle that you 'feel' is useful. And the colour is absolutely beautiful, better than the pictures.
One thing is though, the Hook comes with Shimano double-sided SPD's as standard. They are supplied with plastic flat clip-in's but, to be honest, they are crap. So it may be an idea, if you don't have SPD's, to get some new pedals or even swap them for the Tassajara pedals which are better as 'standard'.
All in all, it's a great bike, and rides and looks better than the Oranges, GT's, Trek's and Marin's I've ridden.
Hope you have a good time on it.
I have an '02 Tassajara and an '04 Cake. Love 'em both.
One thing though, pedals are a personal thing, and if you're on good terms with your LBS then you should be able to get a swap at little or no extra charge.
The plastic clip-in things are there to add the reflectors (to SPD pedals), which are a legal requirement if a shop sells the bike with pedals; they're not really meant to be ridden on as such...
Ahhh, cheers mate - you learn something new everyday! Good job I had SPd's 😛
