I've owned my prophet from new and enjoyed every minute of use, however I realise that things have moved on and the bike is best part of 6 years old, and pretty much bog standard.
Question is, is my bike worth upgrading or would I be better buying a new bike?? Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
Of course its worth upgrading, fantastic bike that 'Dale should have kept making.
My '09 version has now got full XTR drivetrain, RP23 shock and ST wheels. It fully justifies the upgrades.

Then you'll appreciate the upgrades even more. Start with wheels/tyres, then forks and shock.
^^ wot they said, you can even fit 650B wheels to it if you feel you need to follow the in-crowd (admittedly you'll need to stick it into the XC shock position to make it fit at the rear - stick an angleset front to keep it slack). Great frames and worth while hanging on to, as unlike most old bike frame, you can fit the current tapered forks to it.
Though I'm desperate to get a FS 29er, I really doubt my prophet will ever get sold.
what everyone else has said, they were (a little bit accidentally) totally ahead of their time...
put on/in: tapered fork, RP23 shock, angleset (or equiv), 650b wheels, 1x10 11-36 (or bigger if you wish), clutch mech and dropper post, job done! 😀

It's good to know that the prophet can take a tapered fork. What parts would I need to convert from standard?
It'll take tapered or full 1.5 steerer forks, so look out for bargain 1.5 steerer forks.
As for parts to fitting a tapered fork, it depends on what headset (setup) is current fitted to run the std 1.1/8 pikes(?). It may have a reducers (spacer that fit in) as part of the headset, if so removing the reducer on the bottom cup maybe all you need to do. Otherwise you'll probably need a new headset, bear in mind you need once that fits a 1.5 headstock, not a xx44 (1.5) headstock - if asking anyone tell them its a cannondale 1.5 headstock you need it for.
TBH I've not had to mess with mine much, but my brain melts everytime I get to that question, there are 'help guides' online from the likes of [url= http://www.canecreek.com/headset-fit-finder ]canecreek[/url] that should help you pick the right headset but they just make my brains ache.. that might just be me though

That looks tidy Scott. What upgrades have you made? Are you able to provide a list that I could use as a starter for 10?
OK an I will list it in the order if I did it again.
1. Gravity Dropper post £150ish (would also consider a Xfusion HiLo)
2. Raceface atlas 765mm wide bars and 60mm stem £40ish
3. Forks Rockshox lyriks coil 160mm, I go a 1.5' steers you can pic them up really cheap I got mine for £300. If I had the money I would have gone for the new pikes mainly due to weight but the lyriks are great forks.
4. wheels Superstar AM rims evo switch hub £114 Would buy again.
5. 1x10 SLX clutch mech 11-36 on back and 34t raceface thick thin on from £200ish
6. Offset bushing £40ish
7. Brakes what ever take your fancy, I have Avid elixirs, hated by most loved buy me. I got mine off here for £50.
Try any removed:
1. Coil shock: not worth extra weight
2. 2x9 set up, kept dropping my chain when racing even with a roller.

The standard Prophet frame is rated for a 140mm fork. Only the MX version had the internal gussets allowing the use of 160mm forks. So be careful putting a 160mm fork on a standard frame.

With the Hope headset my 150mm Revelations just sneak under the maximum recommended axle to crown length, max is 530mm IIRC.

had mine on there for 2 year now, race DH on them and there great. If I was to replace them for any reason it would be with another 160mm set of forks. The axle to crown is 543mm not a big deal really.
