[#3933742]

Hi,

I think my forks need a service.

Is it difficult or straight-forwards to DIM?
Anyone got a PDF manual?
Do I need any special tools?
Where do I get the parts from?

I have no idea where to start!

Thanks

It's easy but can be a bit fiddly/messy on your first attempt. Aside the usual toolbox tools, a 24mm socket, a decent pair of circlip/snap ring pliers and 5wt & 15wt oil.

Air or coil? I've got the 2006 SRAM guides for the air I can email you. Vids on Youtube as well will help.

Loco can help with parts. As can TFT who do refresh kits...

that's air. they're pretty simple. just don't overtighten anything and use a good socket spanner on the big hexes at the tops of the crowns.

First off, which U-turn? Coil or Air?

Ive done 2010 Dual-Air U-turns at home, should be virtually the same if yours are air. Appears complex when youve opened it up but follow the instructions and its alright
Its basically open up, drain oil, clean everything, remove O-rings and replace, put back together with new oil

Have a look on the service bit of Rockshox's website
If you cant find '06, then I think revelations were unchanged for 2007 and 2008 model years, for 2009 the internals should be similar (went upto 140mm), apart from coil U-turn which was only available on pikes for 2009

Air then. I'll email you the guide.

For starters and if everything is working fine, you might just want to drop the lowers and check the foam rings/seals before progressing to a full motion control and u-turn service. You don't necessarily need to do a full service (change all the seals etc) and often I just check everything over and change the oil

"use a good socket spanner on the big hexes at the tops of the crowns"

I've used an adjustable too out in the field. I've also seen someone round out the hexes doing the same thing. use a socket if you can.

Supplementary q: the manual says to put some oil in each leg once the lowers are back on. Since the rebound (right) side bolt that goes in to the base of the fork lower is hollow core, what stops the oil dropping out? (I don't have the rebound adjuster twiddler-thing, but I don't see that it has a seal on anyway).

Am I missing a bit?

for the record I rang TFTuned - when the right leg footnut is tightened it draws down a widget on an internal thread that creates the seal (if I understand correctly - it makes sense)

there may appear to be a small amount lf leakage - that's just the oil that's left in the bolt thread

maybe that'll help someone 1 day!
