Ordered a Thompson seatpost

Got a 27.0mm by accident

Need a 27.2mm

Send it back or chance it? Will it even matter?

If your lucky then it'll be ok. But probably going to create problems. I had a similar issue with an old bike. Had to plump for the right size in the end as it was slipping all the time. Ridable but could never get the right clamp pressure.

It's CRC so it's a bit of a ball ache and they don't have the 27.2 in stock for a week or two

Didn't you get a collect+ sticker? Should be free to return. I'd swap it.

Probably will not clamp very well and might put extra stress on your seat tube. No point cracking a frame just because of a bit of laziness.

send it back, or risk slipping posts and cracking your frame.

Seat tube will tend to "gather" under the clamp and then crack.

I can't believe that no one has yet given the correct STW answer which is to keep it and but a new frame that it will fit. As well of course getting the correct post for the existing frame.

I have to disagree - I work in a bike shop and have 3 thomson posts, one in a less common size. They measure up fine and I've not heard of this before.

Send it back there's not a hope in hell it will stay put

If you use Collect+ the process is positively glacial but it will get there (eventually)

bike-discount.de have them in stock http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1171/a1916/elite-sattelstuetze-272-mm-330-mm.html?lg=en £58.40 + p&p

I have. We had a couple of customers who had perpetually slipping posts, and they were very slightly smaller than other seatposts of the same claimed size in both instances. Ditto King Headsets.
