The Forestal Siryon is a 17.4kg eMTB with a self-developed motor, 170mm travel, carbon frame and 4G internet connection!

It has been a long time coming, but finally, Forestal has unveiled full specification, feature, and price details of its first-ever eMTB.

Named the Siryon, after the star Sirius, this cutting-edge pedal-assist bike might be lightweight, but it has the geometry and travel of a full-on enduro bike. At a claimed weight of just 17.4kg for a medium bike, the Forestal Siryon, is about the same weight as the latest Specialized Levo SL, but with 170mm of travel front and rear, more aggressive geometry and a motor that offers more torque, the newcomer is an altogether different bike.

Forestal EonDrive

Designed by Forestal built by Bafang.

Powering this long travel, 29er is Forestal’s own EonDrive motor. This compact drive system has been designed and developed inhouse with the help of Chinese motor maker Bafang. Made of a combination of high-end materials such as Titanium and Magnesium, the motor weighs just 1.95kg and has a narrow Q-Factor of only 170mm.

EonDrive is a 250w power unit that offers 60Nm of torque and promises zero drag when disengaged. It’s powered by Forestal’s own integrated Aurora 350w battery pack that boasts fast charging from 0-80% in only 1h 24min, and riders can choose to add range extender battery to the system if they need more range.

Forestal Smart Trigger
Nitro is the mode we’re most excited about.

Like most eMTB motor systems the EonDrive offers 3 power modes Eco, Sport and Race, but there’s also one extra mode that we’re very excited about. Nitro will give you an instant boost no matter which mode you have the Siryon in. You’re still required to pedal the bike and Nitro is an assist mode, but think of it as a shortcut to get you in Boost whenever you need it.

Those modes are selected through a bespoke Forestal Smart Trigger. We actually spoke about this last month during the teasers for the bike. This Smart Trigger features LED lights that can tell you which mode you are in and how much power you have left in your battery. Rather than a button or switch, the Smart Trigger rotates around the bar and an be controlled by your thumb.

Forestal Dashboard

If all of the tech so far wasn’t enough, then a Smart Dashboard built into the top tube of the frame might appeal. More than just a 3.5in touch screen, this Dashboard has it’s own 4G LTE data connection, ANT+ and Bluetooth so it can sync with your mobile phone and the dedicated Forestal app. With built-in GPS, Foestal has even added theft recovery features to help you recover the bike should it ever go missing.

Navigation and Strava integration is all part of the tech package, but sensors in the bike can also report on air time, G outs and more. It all sounds pretty fantastic.

Because Siryon is connected, Forestal are promising OTA (over the air) updates for the bike which could add more features, enhance current features, or possibly add cool Easter eggs for owners to discover.

Siryon Alpha Box Frame

All of these high-tech items are integrated into a carbon fibre frame with modern enduro bike geometry. The head-angle measures64°, the seat tube 77° and reach on a large frame is 488mm. The Alpha Box design has the rear shock sit inside the top tube and is visible from above. It’s a design feature that we expect will be carried over to other Forestal models in the future.

With the rear shock tucked high up in the frame and the 350Wh battery integrated in the downtube, there is plenty of room in the frame for a bottle cage. The bottle cage will also be where a piggy back battery can be held to increase range.

Not mentioned in the press release but visible in these images is an integrated rear fender inside the rear triangle, and we can just make out the battery charging port below the bottle bosses low in the frame.

Outback is another in-house design, Twin-Levity suspension. On the surface, the Twin Levity suspension design looks like a single pivot similar to an Orange, but there is a linkage that is just visible and gives the frame a coil friendly kinematic.

Forestal will offer the Siryon in 4 frame sizes, S, M, L, and XL, and the first 1000 frames will come in limited colour and individually numbered.

So it’s high-tech, has a good looking spec, and decent geometry so what’s the catch? The catch is you can’t buy one yet, but only pre-order one and to do so you’ll either have to fork over €7499 upfront or a €2000 deposit followed by a final payment of €5999 AND you can’t expect your bike to arrive until October.

Now, as good as the Forestal Siryon looks on paper, that’s a lot of money to spend on a bike that we haven’t seen or tested not to mention one from a new brand. Luckily Forestal has promised that we will be one of the first magazines to test the Siryon and hopefully we won’t have long to wait before we can tell you if it lives up to the hype or not.
