Best UK Riding Destination: Dyfi Valley

by 0

Your votes have been counted and the results are in. You have chosen the Dyfi Valley as the Best UK Riding Destination!

It takes more than just a great trail or two to make a destination. You need places to eat, places to stay, a variety of trails for different riders (and weather)… and maybe something to see if it all goes wrong. The Dyfi Valley has it all: a monster of a bike park under the curation of those Athertons, plus a network of bridleways, cycle routes, and even some extra stuff thanks to the local trail association.

There’s a great selection of accommodation to be had, MTB guides to show you around, village shops to get your snacks. There’s even a pump track to hone your skills on. It’s no wonder it’s got a thriving local community of riders who call the place home, as well as all the tourists and weekend visitors.

If you’re in any doubt about what the area has to offer, check out our latest Classic Ride.

If you’re planning a visit, check the Dyfi MTB website for trail opening/closure information, and to make a donation towards the upkeep of the trails. Here’s they had to say about the award:

“The Dyfi Valley has been a superb riding venue for over 30 years, due to the enthusiasm and care of the local Mountain Bike Community. With such a varied choice of riding, from remote big skies scenery to steep and gnarr national level enduro trails, it’s a fantastic place to live. We’re so stoked that your readers enjoy the area as much as we do. You can find out about our plans for the trails “Beyond the Bike Park” for 2024 and how you can be involved, just follow us on our socials @DyfiMTB to find out more.”

Diolch yn fawr iawn/Massive thanks, Beicio Mynydd Dyfi Mountain Biking

And here’s what a few more from the valley had to say:

“Dyfi is a world class riding destination, shaped by local riders to reflect the terrain with trails completely unique to the valley and forests. The variety of riding in the small area is amazing and offers a great challenge to keep people coming back for more.

Better still, people are coming to stay and live! Mountain Biking has given the area a sense of definition and purpose, which you can see in the crew of hugely talented young local riders.

It has been a pleasure and privilege to be involved with mountain biking in the area for the last decade.”

David Evans – Owner, Bike Corris Ltd.

“It’s great to see all the hard work from local riders, diggers and businesses finally put our hidden gem on the global map! It’s not for gate keepers, it’s for all!

When I first moved here I knew it was something special and that’s why I wanted to show more people the best trails I have ever ridden and help share my knowledge and develop the local riders.

The raising standard of riders coming through for coaching and guiding is testament to the trails in the valley and the strength of the guiding community.”

Rikki Barratt – MTB Coach and Guide, Corris.

“Dyfi is a great place to live – I can ride straight out the back of my village and loads of my friends are into riding too”

– Local Youth, Berty B, 12

“Machynlleth has so many great trails just outside the town, and I get to ride Dyfi Bike Park with pros from all around the world. It’s Sick”

– Local Youth, Tomos G, 15.

Thanks to all the local businesses and riders that make it a great destination, and congratulations on the award!

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
