Sea Otter 2022: Aeroe Spider Rack makes any bike a long hauler

by 9

Hannah is out at the Sea Otter Classic in California, USA. It’s a four day festival of racing and a huge expo area. There are races for every type of bike, but there’s a strong leaning towards mountain biking, and if you want to see new products, prototypes, and unique bikes, it’s the place to be. Head here for all our Sea Otter 2022 Coverage

Turn any bike into a fully loaded long haul carrier, with these Aeroe racks. The Spider Rack sits on the seat stays of any bike, and the basic package comes with a single cradle. You can buy extra cradles to load up to three bags, and it’ll take a range of dry bag or stuff sack options – though there is an Aeroe branded option too. You can also turn the top rack through 90 degrees, so that you can carry your load sideways if you want to use a dropper or are a shorter rider with not much room under your saddle.

Straps on to any chainstay shape.

Maybe add some frame protection?

Cradle can rotate, especially useful for shorter riders.

You can use any dry bag to hold your stuff. You don’t have to use it for camping gear and big wilderness survival gear – Aeroe says people with e-bikes have been using them to carry spare batteries.

This looks like it could be really useful for events like the Jenn Ride, where you probably want your big bike for fun, but still need to carry camping gear.

Aero Spider Rack: $129 including one cradle, $79 for additional cradles.

There is also a bar rack version, which holds a front roll firmly above your bars, for $79.

Aero racks are available in the UK via Wiggle/CRC.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

Glad it’s not just me thinking that. Wouldn’t want anything heavy wobbling on it too much.

Hi @cheekysprocket – yes chain reaction sold out of all our products very quickly. They have another shipment arriving any week now, so would keep an eye out and should be good to order, Cheers aeroe

Hi @trail_rat / Terry, no Thule still have their full patents. All our new aeroe products all have their own patents – although attaches to stays a lot simpler, more stable and easy to use system that we have designed, with real focus on off road /gravel bikepacking – carrying dry bags/tents/sleeping bags as opposed to traditional panniers. Other focus with this range was designing a solution that caters for shorter people with no room under saddle for gear, providing options for people if they like to carry their gear low, or higher depending on handling preferences, and for full dropper post use where our previous freeload rack had limitations. Cheers aeroe

Hi @ThePinkster / @matt_outandabout totally get it, due to the cantilever it does look like their may be a bit of pressure on stays however no issues here as long as stick to install and weight limits etc, we have had internal and external reviews in conjunction with bike companies/designers on this. Between this product and our previous product the ‘freeload rack – now known as the thule pack and pedal’ people have been using these systems for the last 12 years with no issues at all. Cheers aeroe
