Side by Side, Beyond the Ride: Video for Mental Health Awareness Week

Cyclist & founder of ASCND.CC, Nick Frendo has created a short film for Mental Health Awareness week to highlight the great work of The New Normal charity.

The New Normal Charity host peer-to-peer meeting groups to help support each other through life’s most difficult times.

I think we can all relate to how riding can help us feel. It’s a release, a way to escape, to become stronger. It can be so many different things to different people, but sometimes it isn’t enough. It’s so important to have a release, but far more important to be able to communicate. We all struggle, and this is what Nick talks about in the video, how we all feel so alone. Don’t be afraid to open up, to talk to people. It’s sometimes the most difficult step, to be vulnerable. No matter what’s going on, don’t be afraid to reach out.

Not too good about writing about myself, but not so bad at writing about other things. There was a time that I hated bikes, but then they became my life. Wouldn't be the person I am if I hadn't been on this journey. Here's to bikes, drinking tea and everything that comes with life on two wheels. I'm Lauren, I like bikes and writing about them. Always trying my best and up for adventures.

  1. Great vid. Important.

And hi to Nick. We “raced” a Mountain Mayhem solo from the same pit area a few/many years ago (2007?) Sorry to hear you’ve been through some dark times, very glad you’ve found a path out. And thanks for the film and the work.
