Software is all the stuff that goes on the rider, not the bike. It’s keeping you safe, warm, cool, dry, visible, and everything in between. We all have different requirements for our riding kit, but one thing we can all agree on is that comfort is key. It’s no good having a really waterproof jacket that you can’t bend your arms in, or a super safe helmet that nips your head and causes a headache. So let’s take a look at the items at the top of the kit list pile from this year.

Adidas Trailcross Mid Pro MTB Shoe

The Adidas Trailcross Mid Pro riding shoes tick so many boxes we’ve had to create extra boxes. So comfortable you forget they’re on your feet, supportive right up to the ankle, protective thanks to the D30 panels, lightweight, fast drying, super grippy on foot and they really stick to your pedals. Boots can often be difficult to get on, but these aren’t. Boots can be bulky and rub your cranks, these don’t. They have been reviewed here, and since been included in Kit Essentials from issue 133.

Fox Speed Frame Pro Helmet

The Fox Speedframe Pro has also featured in our Kit Essentials, in issue 132. Amanda’s review of the helmet lead to Ross ordering himself one, and he agrees that it off unrivalled comfort and protection. It features a Fidlock buckle for ease of use, an adjustable peak, efficient ventilation including forehead vents, MIPS, and 360degree adjustability which means you can choose where the band sits on your head in an up and down motion before tightening it across with the ratchet. The helmet comes in every colour you could want, the price is competitive given the safety features and comfort, and it’s even available in a cheaper model.

Nukeproof Blackline Trail Pants

The Nukeproof Blackline Trail pant are made from a 4-way stretch fabric, designed for year round riding, with a slim tapered cut. The material features a DWR coating to help shrug off splashes the thighs feature laser ventilation for added comfort. The pockets feature YKK zips with an added pocket loop for hooking keys onto.
