2021 Commencal Meta AM 29 gets revamped with new frame and features

by 0

Following on from the release of the radical new Meta TR, Commencal has announced the 2021 Meta AM with all-new frame, geometry and features.

Commencal’s boffins have done it again and totally redesigned the 2021 Commencal Meta AM 29 to bring the design and features in line with the recently announced TR model.

The AM 29 was always the bigger bother of the TR with similar-looking frame design and features, that this continues for the 2021 model which now benefits from a shorter seat tube, more standover and longer reach. In fact, the 2021 Commencal Meta AM 29 boasts the longest reach of any bike in the Commencal range, it’s looooonnnnggg.

Reach on a size large 2021 Meta AM 29 is now a valley spanning 495mm, in comparison, the 2019 Meta AM 29 which I ride has a reach of just 468mm. As we saw with the TR though, Commencal has been smart with these reach updates making the seat angle a much steeper 78.6 degrees vs the original 76.5 degrees. This translates to an effective top tube length that’s only 7mm longer than the previous frame.

At the same time as increasing reach and adjusting the rider’s body position, Commencal has reduced the standover and seat tube length, which is now optimised for longer travel dropper posts. Again this is a pretty radical change with the 2021 bike receiving a 25mm reduction in height on a size large frame.

The 2020 Meta AM 29 has been seriously slackened too, the new bike boasts a 63.5 degree head angle, the 2019 bike had a 65.5 degree HA, and is now designed around a shorter offset fork and 40mm stem.

Flagship bikes feature Fox 38 forks.

Updates continue along the same lines as those we found on the new Meta TR with changes to the suspension kinematics, updated cable and hose routing, new double-row Enduro Bearings, and a more compact rear triangle for improved clearance.

But there is one area that the 2021 Commencal Meta AM 29 hasn’t seen a change and that’s the amount of travel the bike offers. Just like the previous generation Meta AM, the 2021 bike sports 170mm of front wheel travel and 160mm of rear-wheel travel.
