Guerrilla Gravity Gnarvana | Modular Frame Platform Gets 160mm Travel

by 1

Guerrilla Gravity announces its latest bike: the Gnarvana – a made in the USA big travel beast.

Last time we reported on a bike with a name this good it didn’t end well, but Guerrilla Gravity has been steadily establishing itself with its USA made carbon fibre bikes, so we’re hopeful that this story has an ending closer to nirvana. The Gnarvana is such a great name for a bike, we’re only sorry we didn’t think of it ourselves. We’re not sorry for any grunge band references that you might find as you read on.

Distinctive tubing profile.

But what is it? The press release is sufficiently entertaining, we’re not even going to bother paraphrasing it:

Ripping down the steepest, chunkiest, fall-line trails is a zen-like experience, simultaneously losing all sense of self and becoming one with your bike. This flow state requires the right tool for the job, a bike that knows no limits, instilling a daredevil’s confidence and monk’s focus. Chasing this feeling is what inspired Guerrilla Gravity (GG) to develop the Gnarvana.

Heading to Gnarvana?

The Denver, Colorado, manufacturer’s latest development pairs 160 mm of Freedom Linkage-controlled travel with 29” wheels to create a bike fast enough to outrun your professional distractions and release yourself from terrestrial bonds. Come as you are and ascend to the next level with Gnarvana.

In the wild.

The main frame of Gnarvana is built using Revved™ Carbon Technology, the evolution of traditional carbon fiber. Just as you will be reborn on your path to Gnarvana, Revved is carbon fiber born anew with advanced resin chemistry that is both impact-resistant and environmentally-conscious, because your bike should be tough enough to withstand a drop from the unspoilt heavens.

So, it’s not bike for riding on a plain then. It’s for the descents – as this is what Guerrilla Gravity thinks is the fun part of bikes. Not wishing to be a negative creep, but the marketing force is strong here, and a quick glance at the website reveals a whole bunch of entertaining jam like the job title ‘Chief Enginerd’ and a bike called the ‘Smash’ which promises to be a ‘surface to surface missile’. But back to the Gnarvana.

Guerilla Gravity Gnarvana Details

It’s the fifth bike from Guerrilla Gravity to use their Modular Frame Platform. This uses Seatstay Tuning Kits to allow riders to swap between different rear travel platforms on both 29 and 27.5in wheels – somewhat similar to the ‘hop uppable’ ethos of Stanton Bikes.

The Gnarvana brings 160mm rear travel to the 29in wheel party, and can be paired with up to a 170mm fork. The chainstay length is 450mm, you get a 63.7 degree head tube angle, and it comes in three sizes, each with a ‘short’ or ‘long’ option. The long or short options are achieved using the GeoAdjust headset, which gives 10mm extra (or less) length.

Room for a bottle too.

If you’re starting from scratch, a complete Guerrilla Gravity Gnarvana will set you back $2,195 for a frameset. If you don’t want it all and just need the Seatstay Tuning Kit, then it’s $445. There are three build kits – Ride, Rally, and Race – starting at $3,895, with components ‘guaranteed to hold up to the familiar cycles of shred and rebirth’. Build kits are completely customisable on the Guerrilla Gravity website. If you must, grab yourself a cup of pennyroyal tea and dive over to the website to pick the build that will give you the perfect love buzz.

All apologies. We couldn’t help but milk it.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

I understand what they are doing but surely the 120mm version is massively overbuilt and way heavier than it should be if it is actually designed to be a 160mm gnar machine,
