Commencal has finally released official details and specifications for 3 versions of the Commencal Meta TR 29 including the much drooled over British Edition which we had a first look at during Fort William.
The ‘TR’ in the name stand for Trail and in this case means that the bike has less travel than the full on Enduro AM model released last month. At the center of the bike is a redesigned frame with familiar Commencal styling, but like the AM model we reported on last month, the chassis has been designed from the ground up and designed around a larger wheel package.
Interestingly the 29er actually features shorter, 437mm chainstays than the 27.5in TR already on sale, an important feature for anyone who “Loves Back Wheel”.
Refinements and changes to the main pivot placement have been included along with a stiffer rear triangle, new forged yoke and an updated rocker design that incorporates larger bearings for more stiffness and reliability.
Three versions of the Meta TR 29 are currently listed on the Commencal website, all of which sport 130mm of rear wheel travel while front suspension is upped to 140mm on all but the British Edition, which boasts a whole 150mm of front wheel movement via a Fox Factory 36 fork.
As we saw with the Meta AM 29, Commencal has been a little more conservative with its geometry than some brands so we’re not getting mega long reach figures, but we do see a frame that has been designed with the option of ‘sizing up’ in mind. Full geometry details are highlighted in the table above, but stand out numbers are 66.5º head angle, 74º seat tube angle and a reach of 435mm for a medium frame.

META TR 29 British Edition
At €3,999 the British Edition gets some swanky gear including a 150mm travel Fox Factory 36, Fox DPX2 rear shock, Shimano XT brakes, E*13 wheels, SRAM 1 x 12 Eagle and a KS Lev dropper post. Renthal and Fabric also make appearances in the cockpit and seating areas.
Meta TR 29 Race
The Race spec bike offers the same 130mm travel frame but in a red and grey two-tone finish and with Rockshox suspension instead of Fox. Up front is a 140mm Pike RC, while a Rockshox Super Delux RT controls the backend. The Race bike also comes with a Spank Oozy 350 wheelset, SRAM Guide R brakes, and an SRAM Eagle NX drivetrain. Pricing is slightly cheaper at €3,499.
Meta TR 29 Essential
The entry-level TR 29 is the Essential and costs just €2,999 and although the most affordable bike in the range it has quite a classy grey paint job with gold decals. Rockshox once again handles suspension duties, however it’s a Revelation up front this time and a non-piggyback Deluxe RT on the rear. Gearing is once again SRAM NX Eagle while wheels are made with Formula hubs and E*13 rims.
