Commencal Launch Junior Cartel

by 1

Quite a few mountain bike manufacturers have launched themselves into making higher quality kids bikes in recent years, so it logically follows that some are also going to start teams and activities for kids too. Commencal have stepped in with the Commencal Junior Cartel, and going by the photos of existing Commencal riders aged as young as 8, they’re not looking for anyone average (they’re also not the first to do something like this, e.g. the Propain Gravity Kids).

They’re splitting it into two parts, one in North America and one in Europe. If you are (or know) a talented kid who might be looking for a bit of support and to go to events, read on to find out how to apply.

Are you aged 8 – 16 and able to send it like this?

Press release:

“The Commencal Junior Cartel Program is a go! Our search is on to discover the next Amaury Pierron, Rémi Thirion, Kyle Strait or Myriam Nicole…

The JR Cartel is made up of young riders who have a real passion for mountain bikes. This project will enable the best environment for spotting the talent of tomorrow, with the hope that one day, they will integrate into an elite COMMENCAL team. It will be a multi-country team with unified bicycle and gear support. It will give access to professional grade, super cool, make-your-friends-jealous pit support at specific events, and allow for fun-vibed relationship and friendship building opportunities with our professional athletes and industry employees, to help you progress and achieve your bike riding dreams.

“Who we are:

“Commencal Junior Cartel is a fun first – teamwork makes the dream work – bikes rule grassroots program to help build young athletes and prepare them for World Cup downhill dominance, on and off track success, and personal growth opportunities otherwise not available.

“What we are looking for:

“Positive attitude, playful, high five throwing, wide-open shredders spread across the USA and Europe. We want downhill oriented riders who feel the need for speed and the desire to improve and become the best riders and racers they can be.

“What’s Expected:

“Chosen riders will be expected to compete in mandatory big races of their regions. They are expected to help encourage teammates with air or virtual high-fives and to provide smiles in the community while producing awesome social media content and spreading positive brand awareness.

“We’ve split the support between two zones, Europe and USA, relying on the Commencal headquarters on these two continents to provide a professional framework and logistical support.”

Proportionally, those tyres look like they’d be 3.0s on an adult bike.

Commencal are looking for confident kids.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.
