Peter Sagan’s MTB Snack Between Roadie Meals

Sagan ripping on a Cannondale in a 2014 video

It emerged last week that the seemingly unstoppable Mr Sagan (no relation to Carl) will be mixing it up with the knobbly tyred boys for a spell before racing the Tour of California.

Sagan, of course, has chops off-road – he’s a former world champion MTB rider after all, and he’s renowned for his exceptional bike handling skills, but he’s far from the first roadie to come from the world of the knobbly. Cadel Evans famously came from the world of the MTB – he’s a 2x World-Cup winner, and disgraced chemicals-hoover Lance Armstrong dabbles occasionally.

A £7,500 S-Works Epic, yesterday. Sagan will ride one similar.

Sagan will be riding a Specialized Epic for his off-road kicks, and hopefully wheelie-ing over the finishline, as usual. But this author knows of no other major league roadie stars who have intermingled a spot of trail-shredding with their usual dropped-bar pursuits like this. Perhaps it’s the start of something beautiful…

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.

Have a google on the exploits of Marianne Vos and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot

You do know that we won’t be offended if you mention
The medal winning woman who also ride both (and more) category’s.

I love you STW, but maybe it’s best if you sleep in the shed tonight

Jean-Christophe Péraud, another that went from MTB (Silver medal at Beijing) to road and I am sure has raced MTB since.
