We’ve all fallen off the bike, that’s part of the sport. We get back up and go again. But what if one day you couldn’t go again.
That’s what happened to Michael Bonney on the 3rd of March 2013, when he was air lifted to hospital to later be diagnosed with a severed spinal cord.
Michael Bonney is now paralysed from the neck down. He needs a ventilator to breathe.
But now, two years on, Michael has made tremendous progress in his recovery and has raised a significant amount for charity. Soon he’ll ride again, but he needs your help.
The “Ride for Michael Bonney Cycle Sportive” takes place on October 4th this year and will see participants ride 30/60 miles through the scenic roads of Cumbria- starting at the Penrith Leisure Centre.
Yes, OK, it’s road biking. But it’s still two wheels and who knows, you might enjoy the feel of tight fitted Lycra…
The event is under threat of cancellation due to a lack of people signing up so if you’re interested and free that day, why not give it a go? Who knew having fun a bike could do some good, eh?
Entry starts at £20 and you can sign up online here. For more info on the event and Michael’s story click here.
