Selkirk MTB Marathon Teaser Video

2014 Selkirk XC marathonThe Selkirk MTB Marathon is held on 2 May 2015, and will host the British Cycling National MTB Marathon Championships. It takes in some of the best riding the Scottish Borders has to offer, and the good folk behind it have just released a teaser video to whet your appetite. And HERE IT IS!

There are three distances available – 25k, 50k and 75k – to try to cater to as many tastes as possible. They all start out from the same place – Selkirk Rugby Club. We’re told that the trails use a mix of flowy natural singletrack and trail centre stuff, with ‘ancient drove road, stiff climbs and grin inducing descents; wherever the courses take you incredible views are almost guaranteed!’ Sounds impressive.

The day before, as part of the Marathon Weekend, there is going to be a free family-focussed Bike Festival, which will close Selkirk’s high street, and will apparently include a pump track, an airbag (whatever that is), head-to-head roller racing, 3-Sixty Bike Stunt Team displays, a mini cinema showing bike films (including the making of Danny Macaskill / Cut Media’s epic ‘The Ridge’).

Barney Marsh takes the word ‘career’ literally, veering wildly across the road of his life, as thoroughly in control as a goldfish on the dashboard of a motorhome. He’s been, with varying degrees of success, a scientist, teacher, shop assistant, binman and, for one memorable day, a hospital laundry worker. These days, he’s a dad, husband, guitarist, and writer, also with varying degrees of success. He sometimes takes photographs. Some of them are acceptable. Occasionally he rides bikes to cast the rest of his life into sharp relief. Or just to ride through puddles. Sometimes he writes about them. Bikes, not puddles. He is a writer of rongs, a stealer of souls and a polisher of turds. He isn’t nearly as clever or as funny as he thinks he is.

    Links don’t work.

I’ve enjoyed every part of the past two years…..bar the god awful taste of powerbar gels.

    Links fixed 🙂

Enjoyed the first Merida MTB event – was a stiff old course!!

I did a couple of the Merida ones and the first Durty one last year. full course each time. Beautiful mountain biking! for those non superfit types, its just a case of taking it slow and steady, spin the pedals and eventually your tyres will roll over the finish line. I think i have convinced myself every year that my bike knows the way round and i just need to sit there and pedal and it will get me home.
