If you’re in the area it’s going to be well worth getting along to spectate/heckle if the Enduro World Series was anything to go by…

One of the biggest enduro races in the Scottish race calendar has new sponsors for 2014. TweedLove’s King & Queen of the Hill, which sold out all its entry places in just a few days last November, has announced new headline support from two UK brands – Whyte Bikes and retail chain Alpine Bikes.

The Tweed Valley event features some track sections used at the Enduro World Series race in May, and aims to be the premier ‘one-off’ Scottish national level enduro race. With the new sponsors comes a new title – the Whyte Scottish Open Enduro: King & Queen of the Hill powered by Alpine Bikes.

Guy Farrant of Whyte Bikes said:  “The Whyte Gravity Enduro team are looking forward to taking part in the Scottish Enduro event in the Tweed Valley, one of Europe’s top trail riding locations. They will be competing on the brand new G-150 works which has recently set the fastest qualifying time at the Megavalanche by team rider Martyn Brookes – who went on to finish third in the race.”

A new Scottish Open Champion’s jersey is up for grabs and some well-known talent features on the 500 strong start list. The event, which was moved form its original time slot in May to make way for the World Series, also has a waiting list of around 150 enduro riders.

TweedLove’s Neil Dalgleish explained, “We’re delighted to welcome our new sponsors, and I’m sure together we can make a great race even better for 2014. We’ll be using some tracks from the EWS along with other enduro favourites, and a few surprises too. The entry list will make it the second biggest enduro in the country after the EWS – it’s going to be buzzing.

Alpine Bikes’ Brand Director Bryan Shedden added, “Alpine Bikes is delighted to be supporting the Scottish Open Enduro. This was one of the earliest established and most popular Enduro events in Scotland. Alpine Bikes will be providing mechanical support for all the racers at the event and we’re looking forward to another great weekend of racing.”

The event HQ will be on Tweed Green in Peebles, with racing taking place on Forestry Commission trails nearby. “The riding will put a big smile on everyone’s face,” says Neil Dalgleish. “Riders can expect some technical stuff and also some flat out fun. As local riders we always like to mix up rides with the best man-made and natural trails, so that’s what we’re putting into the course. It’s going to be a bonzer weekend’s riding. If you can’t get an entry, come and watch and do some riding anyway – there’s no shortage of trails.”
