Kickstarter Round-Up 5

by 2

It’s time for another Kickstarter round-up.

We showed you some weird and wonderful projects last week – http://singletrackworld.com/2014/03/kickstarter-round-up-4/ – here’s what Kickstarter have to offer this week.

Singular Rooster 29+ bicycle

What is the Singular Rooster 29+ bicycle?+? It’s a beautifully made, super versatile off road bike which uses the 29+ tyre standard for amazing traction and rotation. These 29+ tyres will not fit in any ordinary mountain bike frame, even those with lots of clearance. So, what is the reason behind 29+? Basically 29+ gives you a lot of the same feeling as a full fat bike but they roll significantly better and save a lot of weight.

“The Rooster benefits from the experience of designing the much vaunted Swift 29er and the Puffin fat bike. Both those bikes are renowned for their intuitive and sharp handling, blended with the classic style of a simple and beautiful steel frame. The Rooster will share those same attributes in a 29+ package.”

The project is in need of £15,000 before the cut off date of April 12th 2014. Singular cycles have announced that if a ‘stretch goal’ of £20,000 is met, then one additional colour option will be added. We’ve also got another article on the Singular Rooster 29+ bike on our homepage if you would like to know more about it – http://singletrackworld.com/2014/04/singular-launch-rooster-29-kickstarter/

The Allo: The World’s First Speaker-Bike Mount Combo

So, what is The Allo? The Allo is the world’s first all-in-one bike mount/speaker combo designed specifically to make using your phone easier and more convenient. Allo’s unique design gives riders the power to:

  • Use any of your preferred apps without taking the phone out of your pocket so you can focus on what’s going on around you.
  • Control and listen to your music with the touch of your finger. No earphones needed.
  • Get directions/navigate. You can hear turn by turn and see where you need to go on screen.
  • Make/answer phone calls with ease and without fumbling for your phone.

The Allo was originally designed in hope of increasing visibility and avoiding distraction while riding. Overall, it does sound like a neat little idea, whether you guys like it remains to be seen. The Allo needs to raise $24,500 before April 13th 2014, or risk falling into our weekly Kickstarter failure category.

Integrated, Minimalist Under Seat Bicycle Storage

“A cool minimalist storage, innovative design, light weight, eliminates troublesome zipper & integrates beautifully with road bikes.” The purpose of the storage system? To store a minimalist tightly squeezed puncture repair kit which would include:

• 1 tube

• 1 CO2 canister

• 1 CO2 applicator

• 1 slimline multitool

• 2 tire levers.

“After extensive research with road cyclists, what we have designed is effectively a plastic injected moulded ‘clam’ comprising top and bottom sections hinged in the middle and with a rubber latch to securely hold the clam together instead of the troublesome zipper.” The project needs to raise $20,000 before May 7th 2014. Would you pledge any money towards this project? Let us know.

RBH Pack

Ever needed somewhere to store you mobile phone, wallet or keys while out riding? Well, all of your problems have been solved with the RBH Pack. An efficient, lightweight, and comfortable way to carry your belongings while you run, bike, or hike. Designed by Justin Ballinger, and in need of $33,500 before May 1st 2014, does this look like a project you would back?

“An interesting feature added is that the pouches are separated internally by a velcro strip. This creates extra room to fit larger items while maintaining the ability to easily convert back to two separate compartments. There are also elastic bands sewn inside to secure anything you’d like (like keys). The chest and shoulder straps are also adjustable to ensure a snug and comfortable fit.”

The Dreamer: Beautiful Vintage Bikes For The Style Conscious

Now for a slightly different Kickstarter project, but something we hope you will like. This new concept for commuting by bicycle combines the best of both worlds, the upright position and full protection from the elements found in a classic Dutch-style urban commuter and the comfort ride of a typical American beach cruiser.

“The Dreamer comes with a fast 7-speed transmission and pot-hole friendly balloon tires. A perfectly designed hi-tensile steel frame,  spring-loaded saddle and a riser handlebar add to the comfort and assure an upright position. Also, riding uphill is not a problem since we use V-brakes (not coaster brakes).”

The Dreamer comes in a variety of colours. The project was in need of $30,000 but is already at $37,000 with the cut off date coming up on April 14th 2014.

As always, we will now show you a past Kickstarter project that has made it, and one that was unsuccessful.

The Success

Infinity Seat – The Infinity Seat is the first bicycle saddle designed to minimise contact pressure and redistribute body weight for increased performance and comfort. After only needing $25,000, Infinity managed to raise a massive $188,340. Another Kickstarter project that proved a real success among cycling fans.

The Failure

Capture The California Coast – This Kickstarter project just never quite took off. In need of $7,000, they only managed to raise $85,00. Is it any wonder why? The project was asking for money so two brothers could go on a photographic bike journey together. Have a look and see what you think.
