The velcro waist adjustment on the back draws the spare fabric away from the snag zone and together with the four-way stretchy yoke keeps the waist secure even when hanging off the back of the saddle. Long zipped air vents on the outer thigh allow for increased air flow when the going gets hot without compromising protection, although this relies on minimal use of the side pockets to gain the maximum benefit.
Fit is slightly on the large side and small-waisted girls may find that the required adjustment leads to bunching at the back. Altura inners have always been a firm favourite with me and the removable one included with the Quantum X is no exception. The super-soft, skin-friendly lycra, forgiving leg elastic and stretch multi-density women’s specific insert all add up to ensure all-day comfort in the saddle.
This short is a great buy for the price, but the two-tone colours do provide wash day dilemmas and I have to confess to resorting to stain removers in an attempt to keep them sharp. A colour contrast may have been more practical.
Overall: A versatile short designed for all day comfort, perfect for summer riding.
