Here’s news of a new Adventure festival in Muckle Toon, that’s in the Scottish Borders don’tcha know…
Langholm or “The Muckle Toon”, if you’ve not heard of it, is a small town in the Scottish Borders, nestled in the historic Esk Valley. You may have passed through on your way north with a bike on your car roof or south toward the lakes for a day of walking or climbing.
We are a group of outdoor enthusiasts – road cyclists, mountain bikers, mountain climbers, trail runners and good old fashioned walkers – who think it’s a crying shame that you’re all missing out on the fantastic landscape that we all enjoy day in, day out.
To rectify this terrible unbalance the inaugural “Muckle Toon Adventure Festival” will take place on the 17th – 19th of May.
With the emphasis on fun, socialising and family rather than competition and pain we have planned a weekend that should put a smile on your face whilst showcasing some of the stunning scenery and history of our town (we can’t promise there won’t be some aching legs along the way though). Working with Evans cycles, we have two mountain bike routes (15 and 25 miles) of completely natural (and hilly) trails, three sportives (30, 60 and 90 miles) which in true Border Reiver style will take you across the border into England and back. Non bike fun can be had on either of the trail runs (10k and half marathon), both of which start by heading out of the local market square up a 25% climb towards Whita hill or on one of the six walks where our guides will regale you with local history and very possibly bad jokes. Even if you can’t get out into the hills and valleys that surround us, there will still be plenty to get involved in back at our “event village” with kids activities, stalls and entertainment.
