Tuesday Treats 31: Riders Cycle Centre

by singletrackjay 3

Your once a week dose of product fancy from Singletrack’s Premier Dealers, stockists and advertisers.

Tuesday Treats gives you a quality serving of independent bike retailing and a chance to win big, in this week’s prize draw.

This week, we introduce Riders Cycle Centre:

Stuart Rider (top left), picks up the story.Riders Cycle Centre – RCC‘s home is the historic town of Skipton, North Yorkshire.  We’re located at the foot of the Yorkshire Dales and only a stones throw from Leeds/Bradford/Harrogate centres. I’m Manager and Mechanic and opened RCC a year ago. We specialise in the repair and parts side of the bike retail section and on this basis, RCC has flourished. Being Cytech & CTC qualified has enabled us to run our successful Cycle Maintenance Courses, Guided Rides and overnight Bivvy Trips’.

What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?

Our repair service. It’s what got us on the map. We focus on providing a professional service with friendly, helpful advice. We want to include the bike’s owner during the repair so we explain what needs to be done and why we are doing it. This has shown to be a great recipe. Apart from that, gear inner cables have been very popular (well… it has been very wet).

Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?

Maxxis EXO or tubless tyres on the MTBs. 1X9 gearing on our Ragley TD1 and Ti Blue Pig. My beloved Sella Italia Flite saddles and Hope wheels are favourites. Otherwise, it’s Continental Four Seasons tyres on the road bike.

Is there a forthcoming event you think our readers should know about?

Every Thursday night we run a DIY turbo training session. Bring your own bike and turbo and train in a more social and enjoyable setting. On Wednesday mornings we run a local/social off-road ride with the emphasis on fun and technique. RCC is also attending several cycling events this year, from XC races to 24hr solos.

We think 2013 will be the year of the Bivvy. RCC are busy planning several overnight Bivvy road and MTB trips, so stay in touch for more info. You can always keep up to date with our riding trips or events on my blog page.

Any recent Custom Builds you care to mention?

Our custom build service has been busy. Recently we’ve worked the magic on a Stanton Slackline, Lynskey Cooper and a Lynskey Cyclocross. A really good example of what we can do is where we helped local lad James build up his Cotic Soul. We kicked things off with a coffee shop meeting, to discuss parts and spec and then involved James in the actual build of his bike.

It's all about the fine details

Our custom builds process allows the customer to be present during the build or to actually undertake the build themselves, under my supervision. It’s safe to say, it’s been a roaring success and happy customers is what we’re all about.
