What better way to say goodbye to the summer than with a good old fashioned weekend of riding bikes, climbing and generally enjoying the outdoors? Outdoor kit manufacturer Alpkit arranged for three days of camping, activities, talks and courses in the Peak...

The Peak District’s first Big Shakeout Adventure Festival was declared a huge success by organisers Alpkit and Thornbridge Outdoors. Over 300 people were treated to a full weekend of excitement and entertainment during the event at Sheffield City Councils Thornbridge Outdoor centre near Bakewell.

Easy morning mist gave way to blue skies...

Blessed with Autumnal blue skies, bright sunshine and inspirational views, climbers, bikers, walkers and canoeists enjoyed all that the Peak District has to offer before kicking back at the Big Shakeout. Mountain bikers were taught invaluable skills from Campbell Coaching before being guided around some of the best trails in the Peak by Ed Oxley of Great Rock. Singletrack‘s very own Benji Haworth was there making sure riders knew how to capture it all in his photography courses. Families and friends encouraged each other up, under and through the obstacles of Thornbridge Outdoors whilst climbers were treated to world class coaching sessions by Johnny Dawes and Andy Kirkpatrick.

After a long day of activities there was a feature packed evening program of entertainment including lectures, films and bands headlined by the stars of BBC 2’s Dragon’s Den, BassToneSlap on Saturday evening.

Nick Smith, one of Alpkit directors, said: “This weekend was all we could have hoped for. We couldn’t have asked for a better crowd, everyone just got into the vibe of the event. The atmosphere around the campfire on Saturday night was electric as people listened to the music and shared the stories of their day.”
