It’s called the X-Quest and it’ll be covering 700km across Portugal for a week in October.
This X-Quest will happen in October 4-10, 2010. Here’s what the organisers have to say:
“The route will take you to some of Portugal’s most beautiful areas, through countless historical and cultural attractions. You will cross Roman bridges and ride on ancient Roman paths, visit castles and tiny villages, wildlife protected areas and natural parks. You will get the best of Portugal while having fun riding your bike.
The route will be challenging, with ascents to mythical spots, and some technical single tracks – it will have all the right ingredients for this kind of race.
The X-QUEST is open to Amateurs and Professionals, set in teams of two riders.
The racing categories are: Elite, Women, Masters +80 and Mixed (one woman and one man). All teams will compete for a prize-money. The race will consist of 7 stages, covering approx. 700km and something like 17,000 meters of accumulated climbing.
GPS will be used throughout the race, meaning that riders follow the course on their GPS rather than having to waymark 700km of trails…
The X-Quest is a competition that really puts together the spirit of two premium events from the prestigious portfolio of promoters João Lagos Sports: the world famous Lisboa-Dakar Rally Raid and the Tour of Portugal, the most important road cycling event in the country.
