Mudstock is a new festival dedicated to things bikey scheduled for the 10th/11th of April.

There will be loads of free stuff to do, talks from people like Nick Craig along with group rides and workshops.

Here’s the full schedule:

Mudstock 10th/11th April 2010

What’s on when…

All events are free but you WILL need to pre-register for all events before Thursday 8th April at www.mud-dock.com/festival

Anyone registered for Mudstock is entitled to a free raffle entry to win a Trek bike worth £500. The raffle draw will take place after the bike quiz on Sunday evening. To enter our raffle just pre-register and collect your free raffle ticket from the bike shop at any time during the Mudstock weekend.

Photo ID will be required for use of demo bikes/equipment

Saturday 10th

11:00-16:00 Demo bikes

(MTB and road) available to ride from Trek, Scott, Felt, Santa Cruz, Sunn and Cannondale (riders must pre-register and provide photo ID – passport or driving license)

11:00-11:30              My Racing Career

(Café/Talk))             Nick Craig rides Cyclo-Cross, XC and Marathon and is several times British Mountain Bike National Champion and British National Cyclo-Cross Champion. Nick currently rides for Scott Sports.

11:45-12.45              Women’s Hour:

11:45-12.15              Sportives – Not for Girls? Cyclo Sportives are fun, keep you fit and almost always end with tea and cake. So how come women make up barely 10% of riders in your average event? Beverly Arron co-owner of Mud Dock on why, how, when and where to ride your first sportive.

12:15-12.45              Fast Women. Caroline Goward cyclo-cross rider talks about her life and her world in competitive cycling…….more details to follow.

12.00-13.00 Basic Bike Repairs Workshop

(Workshop) On-the-road/on-the-trail repairs including puncture repair,brakes and gears

14:00-14:30              Eat right – fuel the machine – Nutritional Strategies for Riding Sportives or Long Endurance Events

(Café/talk)               Peter Slikjhuis from SIS (Science in Sport) shares the secrets of training harder, riding faster and recovering quicker. SIS, established in 1992, is recognised as the world leader in sports nutrition. Peter has a Masters in Exercise & Sport Science and recently completed his IOC DIploma in Sports Nutrition. He has competed in triathlons for 20 years and last year did his first Ironman triathlon in a time of 9hr8min.

14:45-15:15 Travelling with the Santa Cruz Syndicate

(Café/talk)               Martyn Hoyle is the Mechanic to downhill racer Josh Bryceland team mate of Greg Minnaar and World Champion Steve Peat on the Santa Cruz Syndicate. Martyn spent the summer of 2009 travelling the World Cup circuit with 3 of the worlds fastest and also most flamboyant riders.  He has a tale or two to tell…..

15.00-16.00 Wheel-Buil;ding Workshop.

Chaz Curry from Juice Lubes is a master wheel-builder with 20 years experience.  Having built wheels for numerous top                            riders he is a dab hand with every type of wheel build you can imagine: snowflaking, radial, soldered -you name                     it, he’s built it!  In this class, Chaz will outline the basic steps   involved in building a wheel, from lacing patternsthrough to                                 thetruing process.

15:30-16:00              The Absa Cape Epic 21-28 March 2010

(Café/talk)               -The Magical + Untamed African MTB Race
This 8 day race includes a time-trial prologue and leads aspiring 2 rider teams of amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through 722 kilometres of unspoilt nature and up about 16 000m of climbing over some of the most magnificent passes in South Africa. Mark Wynn has just been there, done it and got the t.shirt.

MTB rides to Ashton Court and Leigh Woods (easy or moderate pace)

Road Rides to Chew Valley/Mendips and Clevedon (easy or moderate pace)

11:00-11:30              Ride Like a Pro

(Café/talk) Simon Richardson is an elite racing cyclist from Bristol who currently rides for the Sigma Sport-          Specialized team. He started as a cross-country mountain biker and won the 2005 British under 23 Championship. He became a professional racing cyclist in 2007 and won the overall title in the 2009 FBD Insurance RAS stage race whilst riding for the Rapha Condor team. Tom Southam(Rapha/Condor/Sharp) has represented Great Britain at five World Championships during his career.

11:45-12:15              Training zones and chain of muscular movement

(Café/talk) Andy Wadsworth (Mylife Personal Training) has been training everyday people and elite athletes for the past 10 years. His background is in a number of sports. Andy was Amateur Xterra Triathlon World Champion in 2002. Before that he competed in international cycle races including a number of World Cup XC Mountain Bike races. This competitive sporting career is backed up by with an Honours Degree in Sport and Human Movement Science. Andy has more than 15000 hours of one to one training experience. He regularly contributes to the BBC, and magazines such as Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness and What Mountain Bike and is the author of The Complete Encyclopedia of Personal Fitness Training.

12:45-13:15              Iditarod

(Café/talk) John (Shaggy) Ross competed in the 2009 Iditarod Invitational,  a gruelling multi-day race across the snowy plains of Alaska.  Shaggy recounts the highs and lows of life on the ice as well as talking through some of the “custom” kit he used for the event.

14:00-14:30             In Praise of Slow Cycling

If you have to rush to work every day so why go faster than you need to at the weekend?  After a leisurely morning ride                            around the lake, Nick Rearden (Cycling Weekly, Cycling Active) talks his way out of a hard ride.

14:45-15:15              Why Brompton?

(Café/talk) Co-founder of ‘The Folding Society’, Gary Lovell has ridden folding bicycles for 20 years and has lovingly owned as many bikes himself. As far as Gary’s concerned, anything other than a Brompton isn’t worth riding. As far as we’re concerned, anything Gary doesn’t know about Bromptons isn’t worth knowing.

18.00 Mudstock Bike Quiz (pre-register teams of 4). Think you (Café) know a bit about bikes? Come along to our quiz about all                                aspects of bikes and cycling, drink some beer and win some cool stuff.
