Graphic Designer Wanted

Full time – Based in West Yorkshire – £22-25k pa (depending on experience)

We are looking for a graphic designer to carry on the amazing work started by our current designer who is stepping down to go and be a ski bum in the Alps or something.

You will be responsible for designing each issue of Singletrack magazine using Adobe Creative Cloud tools and ensuring it meets strict print deadlines. You will be expected to see a total of six issues a year through from photo commission and design to final print-ready copy. In addition you will be responsible for the day-to-day design work that is required from a very busy and prestigious bike magazine, from marketing/advertising to merchandise design.

Your organisational skills must be honed well, as must your passion for riding bikes – we think you need to love the subject matter before you can put your heart and soul into the design.

You should have a love, and preferably knowledge of, good mountain bike photography and the photographers that help make our sport look as inspirational as it does.

You will know your way around Adobe’s video editing software and/or Apple’s (iMovie/Final Cut Pro)  and you will have experience of creating and editing video.

As with all media publishing you should be very familiar with other channels of content distribution from mobile and tablets to desktops and you should be prepared and knowledgeable in the design requirements of all the current digital channels. Basic web design skills will be a great advantage too.

You will be fully engaged with social media on a personal level and be aware of the social media requirements of an international media company.

On a day to day basis you will work alongside our existing Editorial staff, our remote freelance design team and a wide network of freelance and volunteer writers, photographers and videographers. A team player is a must.

Working at Singletrack is a unique experience. You will be joining a small, dynamic and committed team with a good spread of perks, bonuses and a range of other opportunities that will reach beyond the core job description.

Some specifics for you to tick off…

  • Experience of magazine design and production using all Adobe Creative Cloud tools, in particular InDesign, Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • You must be prepared to work on a daily basis in the Singletrack office, which may well require a move to the area (West Yorkshire). As well as assorted location work, odd weekend events and bike shows as needed.

Some things that will make you stand out…

  • Video editing skills along with video graphic design skills.
  • Familiarity with SLR cameras and knowledge of how to use one in a studio as well as how to get the best possible images while out on the moors in horizontal sleet as the sun goes down.
  • WordPress experience and principals of basic web design.

If you’ve got this far and you are still interested to find out more then drop an email to and let’s set up a preliminary visit to the office for a chat.

Apprentices Wanted

At Singletrack magazine we have run a successful in- house apprenticeship scheme for a number of years now. One of our journalist apprentices recently left the University of Huddersfield with a 1st class honours degree in sports journalism. Our recent IT apprentice now works for us full time after similarly scoring a 1st from Chester University.

We are looking to appoint two new apprentices to work with us alongside their undergraduate study.

Ex Apprentice Kane on a press launch. Kane gained a 1st from Huddersfield University in 2017.

Apprentice 1: Graphic Designer

We are looking for someone to help us produce even more high-quality design output for multiple channels including print, website and social media. You will need to be familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud suite of tools.

You will be currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree in graphic design and be able to commute to our office in Todmorden.

Apprentice 2: Journalist

We are looking to start a new apprentice in our editorial team to help us with all aspects of our editorial production from writing up press releases to reviewing product.

You will be enrolled on an undergraduate course related to journalism and an enthusiastic mountain biker. You will need to be within commuter distance of our offices in Todmorden, West Yorkshire.

Tom now writes the Matrix for us as a full time member of staff after graduation from Chester University with a 1st.

Earn While You Learn

Our apprentices learn the business from the ground up and they are an excellent way to supplement studies in a real world commercial publishing environment. But that’s not the end of the perks. We will pay you to work for us and when you are not working for us and are hard at work at university, studying, we’ll keep paying you a retainer to help you through the term.

The terms are pretty straightforward: During term time you study and we pay you a small weekly retainer. Outside of term time you work for us (at least 80% of your time away from university).

Depending on your university timetable our apprenticeships typically pay around £5000/year for the duration of your studies.
