   Ok, so the missus has got a laptop running Windoze 7. For the last couple of weeks she has been unable to get onto the internet. Strangely, she is able to connect and use Skype. It seems to be a DNS error..

   So far, I've tried the following;

   System restore
   Flushing the DNS
   Changed the DNS server address settings for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
   Disabled the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

   Searching on the internet has given me hundreds of people all seemingly experiencing the same issues with no definitive answer. I'm working on my own laptop, wirelessly connecting to the same network through windoze 7 with no problem. I've sat and compared settings, all seem the same (apart from the changes above to try and resolve the issue, but I can't get it working

   HELP!!!

   I'm guessing if you've tried flushing DNS that you've checked that it's getting an IP from the router and other obvious stuff? Given that Skype seems to work I'd be looking at firewall settings (both software and hardware) and browser config. Do other protocols (e.g. email) work?

   just tried an ipconfig again and the default gateway is showing completely blank..

   No answers but is the problem the same with wireless or wired?

   Who is your ISP? I only ask because those that offer 'proper' support might be able to point you in the right direction. I had a really odd 'wot no connectivity' issue a few months ago and Zen (helpful as always) applied some lateral thinking and got me sorted. Can't remember exactly what it was - something in router settings needed resetting or something weird.

   Can you log in to the router management from the other PC and check if the dodgy one shows up in "attached devices" or similar?

   can you connect to the router? ie type 192.168 etc in the address bar? if you can, can you ping 173.194.67.106 (google)

   so no default gateway?
   As above, is it the same with a wired connection?
   type ipconfig /renew

   what happens then?

    Can you ping or tracert from command prompt? E.g. Start > CMD > ping http://www.bbc.co.uk

    Possible MTU misconfig between PC and router.

    spacemonkey - you need to remove the http:// from the ping command, or it will fail.

    Just read the above properly. Miniport adaptor. Driver issues....
    Wire it into the router, get all your windows updates.

    Try wireless again.

    Have you checked the Host file is correct? Malware can bigger it up and kill an internet connection
