Apparently seen by a riding buddy on our local loop in UK, several of them on back legs like meerkats then when he approached they ran down holes. This is a pic he took, what the hell is it, Ground Hog??………

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

It’s some sort of ground squirrel as far as I know, but I’ve no idea which one. It looks too skinny to be a groundhog to me, unless it’s a young one I suppose; I’d have guessed prarie dog. But to the best of my knowledge, neither of those live in the UK.

I’m absolutely no expert though, and am making this up.

Too small agile-looking for one, so I’ll tow the line.

Can someone please put a flat cap on it. Perhaps give it a book and a pint?

A quick Google suggests there were Prairie Dogs at this place in Bedfordshire – http://www.wild-britain.co.uk/ which closed down in the Autumn due to lack of funds.

You don’t suppose they left the enclosures open by accident?

Thought it was a Marmot at first glance, but yeah looks like a groundhog.

I love Marmots – the sight and sound reminds me of hooning down an Alp.
