Ah, I remember him living (seemingly permanently) on the Boards Mag forum I dipped into every now and again when more into windsurfing than I am today. Did seem a bit of a dick, or at the very least liked to act the agent provocateur.

He was equating something that he sees as being negative (SPD use) with homosexuality, therefore it's not unreasonable by any stretch of the imagination to assume that he's a bigot.

It was used so often by Al before his miraculous rebirth as a paragon of forum etiquette that I think it's unfair to name it after only one inhabitant of that wonderful city.
hilldodger - upsetting self-appointed interweb prefects like that is quite on brand for some of his gear - he'll probably book the time spent on the forum to marketing and then go and show off about it on dirt or pinkbike. It generally works quite well for him on the windsurfing forums - the people he winds up you would not want to be seen using the same sails as etc (or pedals

I did, of course, realise that.
You have to realise that, for a large part of a lot of gay mens lives they've had to accept a label that is used as an insult by quite a large part of the population.
In the past few years by younger people it has begun to mean 'uncool/rubbish' but it's still an insult.

No-one is offended by the use of any word. It's the context of the word that matters. If someone called me gay, I'd be fine unless it was done in an objectionable manner - like it was something 'wrong' or somehow degrading.

I guess.. somewhat haphazardly.. that as in all walks of life.. some folk will strive to take offence at things regardless of their sexual orientation..

GRF started an thread with inappropriate homophobic "banter" No great crime, take a warning and shut up. No problem.
However he would not take the warning so was banned. Again - apologise and its no great issue. However he chose to launch into STW staff.
Now I think the modding on here is not always s right. However I understand its pointless to rail against it. You make your comment, make your case politely and move on.
People forget that this is not a democracy with rights. This belongs to STW and what they say goes.

Strangely the answer appears in the postings of Grahame, he seems to think being gay is some sort of weakness, to be ridiculed, strangely some gay men also use this self depreciation as humour, and it works from them, sadly grahame missed the funny stage.
Also ive never met a gay cyclist or a gay man who rides a bike off road, perhaps if they do exist just email me with some proof,
I thought we had pretty much every possible variant on human sexuality on here. Generally a reasonable inclusive forum as homophobes get flamed.
I am sure there was an openly gay man who posts on here - ca't remember his name tho
~We do have a gay woman posting on the forum as well
