So did you use hand tools? Hack Saw, file etc? Or did you use a dremel etc?
I have a dremel, but I don't know whether to bother buying the cutting discs, and grinding or just go at it with my hand tools.

Your advice and any pictures blogs etc much appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Big saw and a big file.Followed by a dremel and small file.Followed by endless wet and dry.Finished with autosol and a buffing mop.
Not to be undertaken if you suffer from ocd.....it never ends!

Cut mine with an angle grinder then filed with a bench grinder. Took about an hour including strip and rebuild. Didn't bother with the caustic soda and endless polishing however.

Ive got the ring, I'm just want to have a clear plan, before I cut an F them up.
Mandog- what ring is that you are running.
Tollah- how much for them if they are M960s? I always have uses for a second, third and even fourth pairs..

Looks like a homebrewed components cog to me.

Here you go:
cut off the outer part of the spider with a piercing saw
[img] [/img]
file off the top surface of the spider arms with a course file
[img] [/img]
round off the ends with a course file, emery and polish

Voila

Forgive my ignorance, what's the point and benefit exactly? What does it offer over a normal crank?
