just wrestled my filthy worn old tyres off the commuter

to put on my schwable marathons

to find they are too big for my wheels?

at least the reflective sidewalls work

i do see the number 650 and the letter b is that my problem?

Strange that. I’ve got some 26″ Schwalble Snow studs that barely adhere to a 26″ rim. I had the first ever tube explosion with them – it just sneaked out twixt rim and bead.

Eventually got them to fit by being super careful they were on neatly all the way round before getting the pump out.

    wrong tyres.

ETRTO for MTB 26″ is 559mm.

You have Clown Bike tyres, 650B, 584mm

well they do specify the ETRTO but yes, IMO that is a bit misleading as most people dont buy by ETRTO but by “inch” or 700c

Kimbers – I think the key thing is that it’s a “nominal” size.

Some tyres on a given rim are a bugger to get one. Some are just too loose. Or too tight. Some combinations are ‘stretching’ it a bit.

    The tyre geek is correct.

    650B is also 26″ x 13/8″ x 1 5/8″ in old money, or 26″ balloon if you’re really old.

That ad does say it’s a 650x40B, but I guess not everyone appreciates what that means.

Time to send them back & get a refund then.

    More useless info

French sizing. 650 / 700 e.t.c refers to the outside diameter of the. Wheel + Tyre in mm with correct tyre installed.

A,B,C refers to the balloon. A small, B medium, C large.

This as obviously been distorted over time as for years 700c has been primary racing bike tyres.

    622+23+23=668

real c balloon tyres should be

    (700-622)/2=39 mm

The only balloon here is the one that didn’t check what he was ordering 😉

All the info you could ever want, and then some, even if he couldn’t spell “tyre” properly (crazy yanks).
