  • When folk leave here where do they go?

Been on here a while and have seen a few regular contributors come and go. Has me wondering where they move on to? Other forums maybe, more niche forums, or do they just go cold turkey and wonder what to do with the free time? Maybe they just go ride bikes. Where did you come from and where would you go?

maybe they just get bored and stop posting?
I have been on here for a long time, and it has got gradually worse imho, I can see why people would do so.

Most seem to wander in from the vw/Audi forums… Buy an orange 5 or some trail enlighting enduro bike then pootle away to avforums listening to £300 headphones whilst trying to figure out how long they take to burn in.

I guess it’s a bit like bike mags. After a couple of years of reading them it’s just the same old stuff. This place is a lot more varied though so probably takes a lot longer.

Come back here under a different alias.
And deny it when pointed out. (the two lovable bighitter/master trolls i have in mind have had at least four each and not even through being banned iirc).

“Here” is just somewhere to hang out in between real things happening.
Yeah sure, there’s the occasional group reacharound when “something bad happens” but in fact it’s anythingbutreallifetrackworld these days
(IMO) and obligatory smiley disclaimer 😉

    Genuine LOL, good stuff sir!

I have been on here since GoFar & still read a lot, but post a lot less. As has been said up there ^, it’s all been posted before really.

    Cheers.

I think I’m gradually leaving… It’ll be cold turkey, I reckon. What’s the point of other forums?

Camo16, sounds like we’re in a similar place.

Jeez, just imagining a rehab full of former STWers.

problem now, is every post turns into a argument. not a lighthearted pisstaking like it used to, but a proper argument.

    it is no longer fun.

I’ve been here on and off for two years. In the beginning it was funny, then it was helpful, then it became argumentative. Now it’s so familiar you can write whole threads in your head as soon as the OP OPs.

without bromancing too much, there’s a few people on here I’d miss though.

Nah, it was like that before too. Which is why TJ&co. are no longer here.

They all get minced up and made into pies.

    TJ and Onion
    Creamy Cressers and Leak
    Surf Matt Pastie
    Fred and Kidney Pudding
    Don Simon Empanada

    Binners then eats the pies.

Came here from Pistonheads as it’s too much of a rapha loving, sportive riding, wallet waving kind of place.

Lunchtimes and time to fill between doing real things like work/eating/riding/racing.

Rather like Donnas kids in that episode of Doctor Who set in The Library, when you’re not on here you don’t actually exist.

And then you logged on again….

hang on, there’s an option to leave???? 😯

i see it as a red dwarf “better than life” scenario as, just when you think you’ve made it to the exit something piques your interest and before you know it 12 months have passed by and you’ve forgotten why you were leaving in the first place

Don’t have an answer to your question but I have lost count of the advice/solutions to problems that I have read on here.

From bad knees to dodgy chimneys, trails in faraway lands to scrappy bits of singletrack round Halifax. Where else am I going to get that from?

Ok I have to put up with a lot of socialist, handwringing claptrap to get it but it’s more than worth it 😉

I just “dip in and out now” To many people on here know nothing about bikes, and as you say, its all been said before.

I wonder if people move on forums where there is more of one and less of the other? I guess you could move on to a forum with hundreds more specific subsections but then you’d miss out on a lot of the variety that makes this place great.

Well I really like the forum. I’ve only been a member for about 4 years or so but the wide range of knowledge and expertise on here is often astounding. You can nearly always find the answer to something on here, although some of the bike knowledge is a little suspect. I enjoy reading the arguments but I don’t really involve myself, I have enough arguments in the real world without needing to have them online.

Generally though it’s still a good forum, plenty of knowledge, lots of good debate with a wide variety of opinions. I personally don’t want to just read/hear from folk who have the same POV as I do.

I’ve drifted over here from BR after spending about 5 years drifting around there from commuting to road to MTB. Still pop back there occasionally, it’s a bigger site though so gets a lot of noob traffic and a lot of discussions are the same. Bit more variety in here.

I go on the chase trails forum too a fair bit, but I think I’m only one of about 6 people that does 😀

Dunno? Maybe, I discovered BR first though, by about 4 years. Possibly because I was googling dull stuff like, what hybrid for a 20 mile commute etc
