Have had a similar problem to Buzz above, was getting 7.5Mbps but ramped down to 0.2Mbps over 3 weeks, fault tracked to a loose connection in the junction box out by the main road. Have rung Talk Talk to see if they can ramp us back up to max speed instantly but that doesn't seem to be happening yet.
Fixed now, we are up to 18Mbps and 0.85Mbps upload
That's ADSL2+, would like cable but it isn't available. Plus it's only costing us £7.25 a month for 9 months. Talk Talk are the only company to have LLU status at our exchange, so it was clearly worth switching to them in our case.

Malvern are due to get fibre optic soon, so hopefully it will improve even here 6 miles away.
I don't suppose you're on the Malvern exchange though are you? In which case it's likely to be bad news - I'm fairly sure we're not getting uprated speeds, and rather closer to Malvern than you, but on our own village exchange. Though actually pretty good for standard ADSLMax, which is all we can get on our exchange.

That's from a single try with each? Try it again a few times - the browser you're using should make no difference to your results.
