I am also looking for something similar and have shortlisted

Dialled Bikes Love/Hate (apparently this year the last for these)
    Singular Hummingbird
Genesis iO (some 2010 frames still out there)

On-One 456’s can also be built up as singles, and I think Cotic do a steel SS too.

Cant make up my mind though 🙄

Surely weight must be the deciding factor with a SS especially if ridged – otherwise whats the point?

Niner SIR9 mines 21lbs and cruises up hills

i know it’s not steel but the on one scandal makes a great Singlespeed. light, comfy and fast. pretty cheap too.

I like my Love/Hate. Had it about 5 months I guess.

Considered Sanderson Soloist. Went with Dialled Bikes because I’m tall and it has a long top tube. Plus it seemed more niche and I preferred the decal’s/colour combination.

    Love my Love/ Hate…

Seems the perfect bike for razzing around my local trails in Delamere…

wouldn’t fancy peddling something heavy up a hill with only one gear

whats the point in losing all the weight from the gears if the frames a porka!

ok…whats he looking for from a ss bike?

If 26″ wheels appeal, I can thoroughly recommend the Genesis Io.
Far more fun and capable than I could have dreamed of for the price. Although they’ve gone up a fair whack since I bought mine. 😕

OK I see your point, mind you I had an inbred which aint exactly light and the only time I noticed the weight was when lifting it over stiles…erm no not stiles, I mean fences…no not fences….lifting it out of the car boot yeah that’s it, boot. Anyway whatever perfectly legitimate reason I have for lifting my bike that’s when I noticed it, not so much on the hill climbs.

…and with stoutness comes dependability, one of the SS tenets

I have an Inbred and a Genesis iO and I prefer the iO but there’s not a great deal in it. I would like to try an On-One ScandAl and will probably buy one of the new frames (if they ever come out).

FWIW my SS is a Scandal, built up w/ carbon fork and finishing bits it’s silly light. I love it.

    Same geometry as the Inbred.

I have a 2010 Genesis iO too, and love it. No idea what it weighs, I started building my SS as uber-light, but found I preferred it a bit beefier as it was a handful in the rough stuff. Probably about 24lbs at the moment with Magura Menja’s and carbon bits.

For off the shelf value you cant look past on one, if he want to customise and build it up himself then the world is his oyster……..my faves are surly!

i have a 456 summer season, single speeded with a tensioner.
the summer seasons should have been made with slot dropouts IMO, as its a great little “hack/dick about” bike, and single speeding works well for that.

slotty inbred is good too, if a bit more jey.

    Hey Charlie!

I was gutted when I realised that the Niner One 9 frame advertised on here for sale was the S/S only frame!
I don’t suppose your in the mood for doing a daft deal on a new Air 9 frame?

    Email in profile,

    Cheers.
