Hoovered the house and cleaned the bathroom sink; should stop her moaning until next weekend.

Some folk on another thread were making the point about "all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing". That got me thinking, hence the question. It's a genuine one, I'm curious.

I know there'll be the usual light hearted replies, but I'm hoping for more genuine ones.

Stopped the car and asked some scroat who had just dropped a crisp bag to pick it up.

He did!

I challenge misconceptions about the benefits and the deficit at every opportunity. As I see it, the simplest way to oppose evil is to oppose the Tories (& their libdem henchmen).

Arranged Social Services to sort temporary accommodation for a WWII Pilot's wife before we took him into hospital as he was her main carer.

Will that do?

Checked a prisoner every 10 mins while I'm on nights to make sure he doesn't cut his own throat like he did last Tuesday.
Dunno if I'm being good or bad but it might stop an inquest!

EDIT, read the OP wrong, thought is said 'opposite to evil'! (I'm tired, right!)

Erm let me see...

Errr...

There was that alien invasion last Tuesday, sorted that, OOo and then I foiled that heist of the Mona Lisa at the Louvre (again) on the Wednesday night, I stopped a missile attack from north Korea on the Thursday Morning as they were getting a bit frisky. There was that giant dinosaur / sea monster running around Tokyo that I house trained on the Thursday afternoon.

But I have to say that I am completely stumped as how I get rid of this F.....g Conservative Government we have... sorry

Donated a week of my time to DIY SOS. I'm supposed to be decorating my own house and knocking the fireplace out

Drac, thanks.

I never knew you were a WWII pilot's wife, CFH.

...I thought you were based in WWI for a start.

Re doing the good deeds......brilliant to hear those sorts of stories. Keeps my faith in humanity alive.

However I'm more curious as to people actively doing something to oppose what they see as being evil, or even just plain bad. And I don't just mean putting something on an Internet forum. Posing the question has made me realise it is something I've very rarely ever done myself.

I've ironed my superhero costume.

EDIT: oh it a serious question, well I didn't put money into church coffers on several occasions this weekend and gave it to small businesses.
After that the definition of evil begins to be very subjective, hard to mount a one person campaign against some of the world's injustices so I support various causes by donating money, time and resources.

Seriously - we can all do something by turning up to vote in the next election

And making sure we vote for the "lesser of two evil" ones rather than "actually really properly evil" ones

And torrent Game of Thrones instead of paying Murdoch for it on Sky

As above. Clearly the biggest step we can all take against evil is vote the really rather nasty bunch of people currently in office.

That I have actually stated something about politics shows just how appallingly bad they are doing. Normally I'm not interested simply believing them all to be either incompetent or selfish but these guys have managed to show they are head and shoulders above the others in the nastiness stakes.

Drac, thanks.

Cheers.

Don't want to sound like a smug **** but seeing their faces when the knew they both were going to be fine and chatting with the guy about his life over the last 90 odd years for over an hour made was all I needed.

I had a right good week at work with that job and others which gave me a huge moral boost.

An interesting point, this. What can you do? Raise awareness of the issues and facts you feel strongly about. Comment in support of people who share your views and put their head above the parapet to express them on local newspaper comments sections so that they don't feel alone and isolated in having that viewpoint. Challenge the prejudices of those who hold them... Or in the words of Depeche Mode...

You can't change the world
But you can change the facts
And when you change the facts
You change points of view
If you change points of view
You may change a vote
And when you change a vote
You may change the world

I've got my own project which I hope will come to fruition this year. Whether it turns out to be good or evil remains to be seen.

The greater tragedy Jon is that there is very in the way of an alternative to vote for. The Lib Dems have prostituted what little they have in the way of credibility for a seat at the big table and some directorship party bags for when the party is over.

Labour? Who are they and what do they represent? I doubt they even know themselves. Never have I felt so disenfranchised.

#edit - Oh, and to combat evil I got some anti-biotics to fight a chest infection that is purest evil.

I angrily took a photo of the van of a ****er who's constantly parking on zig-zags right infront of a ped crossing near my house. It has his business name and that of his partner...incongruously, he's a plasterer and she's a "foot health practitioner". I am just looking at it now and seething away that I can't find a facebook page or twitter feed for either of them. 😡

That's a good thing you did.

But it made me think:

Is there much real evil* to oppose in this country? Mainly its indifference, and organisations that are so big that they've lost sight of the people they affect.

That's worth fighting but much less easy to muster support for than fighting a definite evil. I think it's a good thing that we've reached this point.

*obviously there's some. It all depends on your definition of evil.

@Coyote - a good plan to give the elected idiots a proper mind **** would be if we all went out and elected independent or very minority candidates (excepting the truly barking loons such as BNP/UKIP/Etc)

So no one has joined Amnesty or anything like that, or contacted foreign governments to try and get them to change their laws or to release political prisoners?

I know a lot of people don't like the present government but evil?? Seriously? Try living in some other parts of the world and I think you'll see what evil is.

Alot of the evil in other parts of the world is funded by the present (and past) UK Government... from drone strikes, to weapon sales, to funding of 'private military contractors' to destabilize countries, there is a wealth of tax funded nasty business going on.

What have I done about it? What little I can as an individual by trying to inform others, in the hope that sufficient impetus causes a change in societies perception of the propaganda which we are fed.

Oh, and I started using http://flagger.io/ to mess with those cheeky underhanded peeps in GCHQ/NSA

I have repeatedly posted the definition of "remove" in a thread.

[img] [/img]

Oh and today I picked up a sign that had fallen off a tree, and put it back up, so that... hmm... either people can tell what sort of tree it is, or possibly, I got the wrong tree and a generation will grow up thinking turnips are a hundred feet tall, who knows really? Can't speak latin. Take that evil!

Went and spent a couple of hours tidying up our local park - like I do every Sunday. That hawthorn hedge was definitely evil.

The only people in Britain who are really taking action against evil are the young British Muslims who join terrorist / extreme islamist groups.

Now there's a hefty bit of moral relativism for you.

I recently supported a teenage girl in getting her abuser put in jail for a very long time. I think that probably comes under the heading of opposing evil.

I also strenuously opposed the (evil) cat's evil plan to eat my chinese takeaway this evening.
