I'm looking for a reliable but cheap post. Would prefer one without a handlebar lever as don't like all the faff. What's your suggestions?

I had one years ago called a hite rite. There will be some kicking about somewhere.

FWIW Bar Lever is less faff than grabbing your crotch (from experience)

IME the hite-rite was just as much hassle, if not more, than just using the QR like normal. Never really managed the "on the fly" adjustment they promised. Didn't work brilliantly anyway and might be even worse on a more modern frame without the lugs for the QR on the seat-tube as it would possibly twist a modern collar type QR (and your saddle) around out of alignment in use.
