[Closed] what are my options for 120mm forks

Turns out the steerer on my revelations is a bit wonky. I'm thinking something 120 to 130mm, basic, no travel adjust or lockout faff. MIght as well join the 15mm bolt party. Any recommendations?

Budget?

At 120mm you have loads of choice, but it kinda depends how much you want to spend. I'm a big fan of my 120mm Reba Teams (now called RLT Ti) with 20mm axle, but they're pretty expensive new these days!

not sure on budget.

OP was from my phone, following a call from the LBS while at work.

SO

was feeling the need to treat myself, so decided to get rid of my crunchy CaneCack OE headset, and replace it with a nice Hope one.
the can creek one has NEVER seated properly, so i figured they could sort that too.

i was convinced it was the headtube. ive had a straight edge on the steerer more times than i care to remember, and its always come up true (in my eyes). so i was pretty convinced the head tube (giant trance) had been faced wrong. Taller at the front than the back.

if that was the case, the bike shop said, they could/would sort it.

Anyhoo. He is convinced its the steerer.

TF quoted about 240 for new uppers for my fork, as it is out of production.
also, being revs of a certain vintage, they have always wept from the compression control cap (and u turn cap actually) and also knocked at anything other than full travel.

I see this as an opportunity.

Some nice basic Fox floats. no twiddly knobs (my second hand float 36s have been faultless so far, with the lack of bells and whistles and twiddly bits).

also, having an icebreaker of a headtube, the Rev hasnt actually been cut down.
the LBS reckon its bent at the race, so i could trim it down and put it on another bike....

if the steerer on my 120mm mxcomps was long enough i would put them on it! as while they are porky, they are bombproof and i like the feel of them.
what are current zocchis like?

or i could trim it down and put the trance bits onto a cotic soul frame (would acutally be a cheaper option, but seems stupid, as i really like my trance, and ive just put a brand new headset in it!

or i could retire both parts, make my patriot a 2x9 trail built, rather than a 1x9 porker mini DH build, and have "one bike to rule them all" (though it would be one noisey bike, and would probably annoy me enough to want to change the frame, so lets also ignore that option)

LBS suggested that for anything other than mincing, a steel steerer is required. I think i disagree, i must have just crashed it badly, or not done the stem up enough so its loosened off a mm and bent while riding like a pie.

off to price up floats...

christ the look positivly wobbly in that picture. i think that might be a bent camera rather than a bent fork...

basic new foxs are £570 (according to mojo) and that is without a 15mm axel.
Boooo.

SO.

I like the feel of my dual air revs, but NEVER use the u turn, nor the compression control.
rebound i set it once and never fiddle with it.

Im happy to buy something a little longer, if it can be travel adjusted with spacers, but the frame I think wouldn't take kindly to much more than 120 (or 130, with dual air travel loss)

how are the Gold Recons?

Significantly cheaper than RRP and both great performing forks...

spotted 🙂 thanks

ok so heres a stupid question.

http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FORSREVRLT140/rockshox_revelation_rlt_140_suspension_fork_with_poplock

could i put a spacer in these?
i cant find any internals manuals (ive not looked that hard yet)
i feel the thicker stantions would reduce flutter (which i had quite a lot of on my revs)

or even run too much negative air (i always lsot 20mm travel with my dual air revs due to the negative spring, so not sure if dual air rebas would be too flexy and too short...)
spose its only 10mm....

I used to have a Reba Team (Now called RLT Ti) on my 100mm trance and it was perfect for the bike.

130mm was OK too, but it's a bit flat where I live.

The Reba is still the best all round fork I have owned in terms of performance/weight/stiffness.
