Interesting article in Saturdays Telegraph that claims a number of the travellers at that site in Essex who claim they have nowhere else to go actually own properties and land in some town in Ireland. They all go back there for Christmas and turn up in Mercedes, BMW’s and Range Rovers etc according to the article. Not sure how accurate it is, but on top of them being reported as willing to sell the land back to the council for £6 million, does makes you wonder quite how accurate and legitimate their claims are.

There’s an established traveller site near Chippenham, where the Roma families who had been there for years left and set up a small site a couple of miles away when the Irish moved in and took over, and caused lots of trouble locally. It’s funny how, whenever there’s issues around traveller sites the occupants always seem to have Irish accents…
