It's not something you get on the internet but I just thought I'd put out an unsolicited positive review of Pedalcover the Bike/Home Insurer.
I was previously with M&S until the changed their bike policy so when I heard of Pedalcover's offer I took the opportunity to consolidate my buildings and contents policies and get a decent level of cover on my bikes.
3 weeks after taking out the policy I had my bike nicked off the back of my car and Pedalcover handled it about as well as anyone could hope for given a few complications. I ended up with a decent payout & a very good replacement for the bike I'd lost.
There has been a little rise in premium this year as you'd expect but not much more than I would have seen from a larger firm over the same period.
Many thanks Darren & team
Cheers
Gary
Good to hear.
Did you have to go through Wheelies for the replacement?
Good to hear and glad you got it all sorted. I also use them and although I haven't had to make any claims (thankfully), I couldn't be happier with their service so far.

Thought that might be the case with Axa being underwriters.
Glad to hear you got your way, no wonder you're pleased with that fine-looking beast.
I was told specifically by Darren that they didn't go through wheelies at all when I took the policy out. Was it much work to persuade AXA to get the cash and how much did you lose out going that way if you don't mind me asking. Cheers
My experience of going through Wheelies when claiming on an M&S policy was they gave a very generous valuation, then explained that I'd "lose" 20% if I took the cash.
I ended up doing half-and-half and lived to regret dealing with them. Should've just taken the money. Even 80% of their valuation would have put me in a better position than before I got burgled.
Out of interest was the bike locked to the rack/car in a meaningful way? The impression Pedalcover gave me was that you'd be covered for car racks if a decent lock was used to to secure the bikes to eg. the car roof rails, but not if just relying on the crappy built in locks.

It was over a year ago so things may have changed now but no I didn't lose out and while it was a slightly drawn out process it wasn't that painful if you discount the time involved. I think I just dug my heals in metaphorically speaking and it worked out. Basically the bikes they were offering didn't match up in spec to my custom built Intense. I was very tempted by a nice Orange 5 or a Mondraker Dune but int the end I went with the cash and bought a Starling and a load of parts much like I've always done.
Pedalcover were very good throughout.

This wasn't asked - it was locked but obviously not well enough. I'm not sure that the policy had any stipulation at the time though this may have changed. I won't now carry bikes outside of the car, it's just not worth it.
It was still stolen at the end of the day and some scumbag has my lovely bike. Even with the new one I still miss it.

I had a couple of conversations with Wheelies and was pleased with their valuation but I cut them off before agreeing to take anything as I didn't like their reputation or really any of the bikes they offered on www.bikereplacement.co.uk as opposed to Wheelies.co.uk or their other site? tredz.co.uk
Nothing they offered for that money matched the spec of bike I'd lost so it was a no brainer to dig in my heels for the cash. meant I wasn't tied to RRP and could make use of the sales.
Not saying it'll work for everyone or that I'd get the same experience again.
I took our policy with them this year, having specifically been told they dont use wheelies( santa cruz nomad and pp shan certainly not on there..) so would be mightily agreeved if they got stolen and i was told to go to wheelies!!

How long did it take to sort out?
Im going through this right now after my bike was nicked off the back of my car last week. Pedalcover have been great so far. Just waiting to see what figure axa come up with.

Pedalcover don't use Wheelies, AXA do (or did) I'm not sure what distinction that makes but maybe it works in your favour if Wheelies come up with high estimates for custom builds but then can't deliver what you'd want?

I got a payout within a few weeks/couple of months but being as I was going for a bike with a 6 month waiting list, I wasn't too bothered. If I'd been desperate to get something in the sales I'd have pushed harder.
Thanks for the info

Same here, in fact I'd be livid having specifically asked if I would be incentivised for using a particular retailer and told no.
Just waiting to see what figure axa come up with.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on. Bike cover is one of the main draws to pedalcover. If it doesn't work out how I understand it should, I'll be looking around.
I missed a bunch of emails (and a voicemail message) and realised at 4:30 while stuck in a meeting that my policy was due to expire at 5pm yesterday! Fired off a quick email. No problem. They've extended the cover for me and I'll phone today or Monday to sort out payment. Never had to claim, but they really are lovely people to deal with.
I can hearterly recommend pedalcover, I've had to claim on the building cover due to water ingress.
Incident happend on Saturday, Phone pedal cover on Monday surveyor assessed on Tuesday, Axa paid on the Thursday and the access paid out the following week, mostly over the phone, all hassle free.
Excellent service, with the added bebefit that my bikes are fully covered, which I've struggled with previously.
Isn't this an insurance company just doing what they're supposed to do? Then they hike your premiums and you THANK them? Maybe other people don't hate paying out insurance year after year for everything and getting nothing back! Bonkers
I would agree except that they seem to be doing "what they're supposed to do" for about 1/2 - 2/3 the price of everyone else I got quotes from.DezB - MemberIsn't this an insurance company just doing what they're supposed to do? Great to deal with, hopefully I'll not need to claim though,
Didn't hike my premium after claiming for a water damaged iphone, in fact they where very apologetic that it had increased by 23p due to a rise in tax or something, always found the Pedalcover team to be friendly and very helpful.
Hmm, bit poor that the policy (doesn't matter if it's underwritten by AXA) tried to push you down the wheelies route.
It states you can choose any bike shop.
So are Wheelies and Tredz bad bike shops or is the problem simply that they don't stock the custom build bikes/parts to cover a claim?
Wheelies were an unmitigated shower of shit when it came to warranty support. Had to chase them over and over again. Nobody there gave a shit.
Maybe other people don't hate paying out insurance year after year for everything and getting nothing back!
But that's literally how insurance works. Everybody pays in but only a few people get anything 'back' in terms of making a claim.
It's good to hear that people have claimed and things have been dealt with properly given how much cheaper than the competition Pedalcover are.
hhmmmm did PedalCover not use to spout a line along the lines of "Axa deal with the normal part of the insurance, we sort the bikes"? I'm sure that's what I was told, but miffed that Axa would be involved at all (never mind having to use Wheelies)
I bought the recommended excess cover policy with my PedalCover policy. It cost £50. Wife bumped her car, we had a £350 excess, the Pedalcover policy covered it in full. We then had to buy another excess policy for £50 from same supplier. Great way to save a bit of cash, highly recommended
I've been with them for a few years now, never had to use them (which is good) but they have been nothing but easy to deal with whenever we've had to chat to each other.
Well done team, keep it up.

I know - and it's not a good thing. Except for them.
I've claimed without issue a few times, no way was I going to rave about how great the company who had loaded themselves up with £1000s off me over the years were, when all they did was what they were supposed to do!
Clearly, just me.

I'll take your word for that for now and get a quote when mine's next due.
