Unexpected week off before Christmas, where should I go?

Must be

a) flexible (to potentialy get cheep last minute flights, so no 2 hour transfers)
b) good riding
c) good company
d) budget, let's say £550 inc flights + spending money for somewhere hot, sunny, with guides and accomodation etc.

'A', 'B' & 'D' would point to a 7stanes roadtrip, but I'm on my own so no 'C', and the weather isn't exactly relible! Could stay in YHA's (if they're still open?) for some socialising in the evenings.

Switchbacks XC is in the middle of nowhere and shut, the DH is tempting, but would hate to be the odd one out on an 'all-mountain' bike minceing allong and holding everyone up waiting at the bottom of each run.

The Alps is shut.

Italy?

Happy with anythign between XC and AM, but not some XC'ers training camp and not an out and out DH holiday. Being a holliday I'd rather just do 'fun' decents and get lifted back to the top for minimum effort.

Anyone think of anywhere that fits the bill?

Partialy hatched plan..........

Hostle somewhere in Scotlandshire, not sure what's open outside the big cities, but then GT's only 45 min fron Edinburgh so not the end of the world, and £77 for the week including breckie leaves plenty of money for the petrol kitty.

Anyone else got holliday the 10th-16th? Memebers of Joblesstrackworld fancy a cheep week away? Any locals fancy a day out?

You should be OK as far as hostels being open goes, the ones in Braemar and Aviemore are open year round so I'd expect most of the others will be too.

Cheers for the tip, I had a look on the SYHA website and the more rural ones in the borders were all shut or only open if booked out entirely to a group. I'll keep looking.

Shame, I'll be up doing a wee bit of riding in the Stanes the week after.

Try a wigwam for cheap accommodation if you can't sort a hostel, might be a bit lonely though!

Mabie house hotel. You might get a decent deal on a few nights stay. Very bike friendly so their may be more parties their at the same time. Your on mabies doorstep. 20 minutes away from Dalbeattie, ae and drumlanrig. 45 minutes from kirry and about an hour and half from gt and inners.

On the topic of Morocco and surfing, who did you go with and where did you go?

Very tempted to get a weeks surfing followed by a weeks biking at some point. Recomend anywhere (Morocco or otherwise) and a time of year for a week for a couple of (almost) complete beginners?

Sorry for late response - Surf Maroc.
They are the best by far and cope as well with total beginners as they do expert surf safaris.
They have a great yoga centre and can sort any level of accommodation.

Any time over winter is best, although summer can be good for novices as the waves are smaller.
